Have a paddle along the lake
CAMPERDOWN families are invited to get out on Lake Bullen Merri on Sunday, April 19.
Corangamite Shire Council will present a PaddleHub session encouraging local families and residents to make the most of the lake.
Deputy mayor and keen paddler councillor Laurie Hickey said almost 100 people turned out for a similar event in 2024.
“That was a great day where everyone had a lot of fun,” he said.
“It’s terrific to be doing it again.
“For the beginners, Paddle Victoria qualified instructors will be on hand to get you geared up and on the water.
“They will run three free one-hour sessions – at 10.30am, 12noon and 1.45pm – with all equipment and lifejackets provided.”
Cr Hickey invited experienced paddlers to come along as well, make new connections, and share their experience.
“We invite people to dust off their old kayaks from the shed, or under the house,” he said.
“Pull it out and come join in the fun.
“Everyone is welcome so bring your own and join us for the day.
“Council would like to gauge interest on whether a club could be formed for ongoing events, regattas, and social connections.”
Cr Hickey said paddling can be as strenuous or as relaxed as residents want it to be.
“You can take a leisurely fishing trip on one of the many lakes here in our Volcanic Lakes and Plains region or get some serious exercise if you prefer,” he said.
“As beginners’ skills and fitness improve, some might move up to exploring rivers across our shire, paddling offshore or competing in adventure races like the Kangaroobie Klassic.”
