He said the brigade was looking to recruit more members.

“We’ve got one new member going through the training at the moment,” Mr Hutton said.

“We’re always looking for more members – the more the merrier.”

Volunteers receive full training and joining the CFA can be as big or as little a commitment to suit the individual.

Mr Hutton said people of all ages would be welcomed, as well as both male and female.

He said there were a range of roles available, and being a member of the CFA was not just about fighting fires.

“If people aren’t as fit we can always find other jobs for them,” Mr Hutton said.

“It’s not just about fighting fires, there’s other jobs available like manning the radios.

“Anything that they can offer is a god-send really.”

A member of CFA for about 10 years, Mr Hutton said he enjoys being able to support the community.

“It’s a good way to give back to the community,” he said.

Mr Hutton encouraged community members who had been thinking about volunteering to make contact to find out what was involved and get answers to any questions.

He said people could visit www.cfa.vic.gov.au/volunteer or make contact with the Simpson brigade via the Simpson CFA Community Board Facebook page.

“Or just come down to the station and say hello,” Mr Hutton said.
