COMMUNITY members have been invited to join a new Positive Ageing, Access and Inclusion Reference Group in Corangamite Shire.
Corangamite Shire Tandarook Ward councillor Jo Beard said creation of the new group was an exciting opportunity for people with personal experience and local knowledge to contribute.
“The group will give advice to council to help create a better Corangamite for those who are ageing, or living with a disability, which are not always visible,” she said.
“That’s why we respect and want contributions from those with lived experience.
“This will help put the Positive Ageing, Accessibility and Inclusion Plan 2025–2029 into action.
“The plan aims to support older residents and all people with disabilities, regardless of age, so they can enjoy better health, social connections and community life.”
Cr Beard said bringing a diverse range of experiences and views would be integral in supporting the group’s efforts.
“Membership will last for the four years of the plan,” she said.
“The group will include up to five community members with local knowledge or lived experience.
“We need a mix of views to make sure everyone is represented fairly.”
There will also be up to four council staff.
They will come from different council areas to make sure all services work toward the plan’s goals.
Each year, a councillor will be chosen as chair.
Those interested were encouraged to call Corangamite Shire Council coordinator positive ageing, access and inclusion Belinda Rowbottom on 5593 7100 or email servicenav@corangamite.vic.gov.au for an information pack.
Expressions of interest close at 5pm on Wednesday, December 31.
