Have your say on reserve draft

CORANGAMITE Shire Council is inviting residents to have their say on a draft action plan for the Lakes Recreation Reserve, with the draft already showing ambitious plans for the area.

Councillors voted to release the draft plan for public consultation at this week’s Ordinary Meeting of Council, with the plan due to be released from late March.

Sports and recreation coordinator Jane Hinds said the space was used by the Camperdown Cricket Club, Camperdown Golf Bowls Club, Camperdown Golf Club, Camperdown Pony Club, Hampden Tennis Association and Camperdown Horse Trials.

“The Lakes Recreation Reserve, located on Lake Bullen Merri Road is situated on Crown Land owned by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) which is managed by council acting as Committee of Management,” she said.

“Council subsequently has Crown Land licence agreements in place with user groups in accordance with council’s property leasing policy for use of the land.

“The aim of the project has been to develop a 10-year master plan for the Lakes Recreation Reserve which will provide a framework and a strategic approach for the future provision, development and usage of the reserve to meet the long-term core needs of the users and the community.

“The master plan looks to provide direction for the future development opportunities for the reserve, and options to optimise participation and to promote the facility.”

A number of improvement projects have already been identified as part of the consultation process, including upgrades to various club facilities and increased amenity access to the area.

Councillor Laurie Hickey said the report read “very well” and encouraged residents to view the document once it was made publicly available.

“It’s important to note that it is a report that is made up of a reference group of the users – the cricket club, the bowls club, the golf club, the pony club, the Hampden Tennis Association and the Horse Trials – all being consulted, and their input has been made towards the Lakes Recreation Reserve Master Plan,” he said.

“There’re some ambitious areas that are covered throughout the report, and through the desires and wants of those who need it, but nevertheless to say it’s great to have a plan and there is no doubt it’s one of the more picturesque sporting facilities that we would have going around with the overlooking of Lake Gnotuk in the background.

“I know that the users do value the site, and so it’s great they’re able to have contributions to the final report and the master plan.

“I’d encourage anyone who is interested or is using it to have a look and just see what the report states because it is significant reading.”
