Hay selected for Ashes Inclusion Series

TERANG cricketer Tyson Hay realised one of his dreams this week when he was offered a chance to represent Australia.
Hay, who captains the Terang Cricket Club’s division one side, found out Monday night that he had earned himself a spot on the Australian Deaf Cricket team.
Hay has been a member of Victoria’s deaf team since 2019 and has spent the last few years vying for a spot in the national side.
He got his chance last week when he was invited to a training and selection camp in Brisbane ahead of the Deaf Ashes series, which takes place in Brisbane from June 4-15.
Australia and England will compete in five Twenty20 matches and three one-day internationals as part of the International Cricket Inclusion Series at the newly-built Australian Cricket Campus.
Hay said he was thrilled to get the opportunity to represent his country on the international stage.
“It’s pretty special to represent Australia, I’ve been looking to get in there for the last couple of years, so it’s really good to know that I’ve finally got there,” he said.
“There’s a fair bit of difference in the level compared to local cricket, bowlers are a lot quicker, and there are some guys who hit the ball pretty well."
“It’s a bit of a step up, but I’m really keen to get up to that level as well, hopefully.”
Hay is hoping to perform well for Australia in the Ashes and retain his spot for the T20 World Cup, held in UAE in September.
“I’m not 100 percent sure how that works, but I just need to show the selectors I can play at that level,” he said.
“Then hopefully I’ll keep my spot to go over to UAE and play in the World Cup.”
