Hear from the shire's inspirational women
FIVE of the region’s most inspiring women will headline a special networking event to celebrate International Women’s Day next week.
Corangamite Shire Council will host a free morning tea at Lake Edge Café next Thursday, March 6 from 9am.
The wider community is invited to celebrate the day over morning tea to connect with others and hear from inspirational women from across the shire.
The day will include brief addresses from inspirational women including Corangamite Shire Council mayor councillor Kate Makin, Lake Edge Café owner Lois Dupleix, Victoria Police Sergeant Natalie Jorgensen and Great Ocean Road Cordials business manager Anne Rosolin.
The addresses will provide starting points for more informal conversation.
Cr Makin said she believes having such discussions can serve as an opportunity for all to unite behind the significance of the day.
“This informal gathering brings the community together to celebrate International Women’s Day,” she said.
“Come along and enjoy a beautiful morning tea with us, while listening to inspirational women from across our shire.
“International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
“It also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.”
The theme of International Women’s Day in 2025 will be ‘Accelerate Action’.
According to World Economic Forum data, at the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158 to reach full equality across health, education, economic opportunity and political empowerment.
Australia ranks 24th in The Global Gender Gap Index 2024 rankings.
Cr Makin issues those living in rural and regional areas face further disadvantage, including less opportunity to connect to those who have experienced similar circumstances.
“Particularly in rural and regional areas, women might feel isolated or that they don’t have strong connections with people who share their lived experience,” she said.
“This event is a testament to our commitment to fostering equality, empowering women, and creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
“Come along and celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and achievements of women from across Corangamite.”
