Heavy loss for Lions
THE Corangamite Lions division one men suffered their heaviest loss of the season in the round nine Ballarat Soccer Association match on Sunday.
Playing Creswick at the Camperdown Showgrounds, the Lions went down 5-0 with the visitors scoring in the 34th, 38th, 51st, 88th and 91st minutes.
Liam Frost was best for Corangamite in the loss.
The result sees the Lions in fifth position on 13 points with four wins, a draw and three losses; with Creswick in fourth place on 14 points with a 4-2-2 record.
The Lions’ division one women continued their strong form with a 5-0 win.
Lenise Mantell opened the scoring with a third minute goal, before Courtney Wells converted a penalty in the 27th minute.
Lara Graham rounded out the scoring with a hat-trick, her goals coming in the 29th, 32nd and 36th minutes.
Graham now has 16 goals for the season, with Mantell on 15.
Jessica Moulden was player of the match for the Lions in just her second game.
The win sees the Corangamite women in second place with a 6-1-1 record.
In the division two men’s game, the Lions registered their first win of the season, defeating Creswick 4-3.
Goals to the division two Lions came from Aaron Corrigan in the 6th minute, Josh Laverty-Meloni in the 19th, Corrigan again in the 21st with James Wallace scoring in the 62nd.
After a 3rd minute goal, Creswick scored their other goals late in the 77th and 90th minutes.
Forest Rangers forfeited the scheduled under 12 match.
This Sunday’s senior games see Corangamite hosting Ballarat North United at the Camperdown Showgrounds, with the Lions under 12s playing Victoria Park at Victoria Park in Ballarat.
