Heavy loss for Storm

HEYTESBURY-Princetown had their biggest loss of the season so far, going down to Irrewarra by seven wickets in the round 11 Colac-South West premier cricket match on Saturday.


Batting first at the Colac Secondary College Oval, the Storm were bundled out for just 71 in 31.5 overs.

Ash Hunt top scored with 23 from 52 balls, with Chris Vogels and Matt Love (13 and 10 respectively) the only others to reach double figures.

The Redbacks passed the total in just 13.3 overs for the loss of three wickets.

Matt Price picked up 2/30 from five overs, with Chris Vogels taking the other wicket.

The stakes are high for the eighth placed Storm this week, playing 9th placed Ecklin at Ecklin.

Division two matches saw losses for both Storm Blue and Storm Purple.

Storm Blue batted first against Bookaar at Frederick St, all out in the 38th over for 214.

Beavan Castles dominated the innings, smashing 115 from 67 balls, hitting 10 sixes and seven fours.

The total didn’t end up being anywhere near enough, Bookaar racing past the score in just 23 overs for the loss of one wicket.

Nathan Gillingham took the only wicket as all Storm bowlers copped heavy treatment.

At the Timboon Recreation Reserve, Storm Purple had a two wicket loss to Ecklin.

Batting first, Purple made 7/192 from its 40 overs.

Tayne Berry top scored with 46 from 53 balls, Lachy McLennan made an unbeaten 35 from 26 balls with Michael Vogels making 31 from 54.

Ecklin passed the score in the 39th over, eight wickets down.

McLennan was the best of the bowlers with 3/26 from eight overs, with Brad Hallyburton and Jalen Berry taking two wickets each.

This week is the clash of the Storm with Blue playing Purple at the Timboon Recreation Reserve.

In division three, the top of the table clash between Heytesbury-Princetown and Pomborneit Gold saw the Storm record a strong six wicket win.

Batting first at Princetown, Gold was dismissed for 117 in the 36th over.

Cody Noonan, Leigh Doak, Norm Vogels and Nathan Balcombe all took two wickets each.

The Storm passed the total in the 29th over for the loss of four wickets.

Openers Terry Webb, with 40 from 33 balls, and Cody Noonan with 43 from 50, did the bulk of the scoring in the successful chase.

This week the division three Storm host Pomborneit Maroon at Princetown.

In the under 16s on Sunday, Heytesbury-Princetown were defeated by Bookaar at Timboon.

Batting first, the Storm were bowled out for 116.

Alby Jones was unbeaten on 35 from 45 balls, with Jed Watson scoring 30 from 25.

Bookaar posted 8/227 in reply.

This Sunday the under 16 Storm play Cobden at Cobden.

In the under 13s on Monday night, Heytesbury-Princetown had a 103 run loss to Camperdown at Camperdown, 4/155 to 6/52.
