Help shape the shire’s tourism

CORANGAMITE tourism operators, business owners and community representatives will play a vital role in guiding the future of tourism across the shire.

Mayor councillor Kate Makin is calling for nominations for the new Corangamite Destination Action Plan (DAP) Reference Group.

“The group will help build a stronger visitor economy whichbenefits local businesses, community organisations and the wider region,” she said.

“The Corangamite DAP has been developed in partnership with Great Ocean Road Regional Tourism (GORRT) to strengthen and promote the shire and its two distinct destinations – Volcanic Lakes and Plains and the 12 Apostles Coast and Hinterland.

“The reference group will have up to ten industry members, ensuring a diverse mix of businesses, community and geographic representation from across the shire.

“It will support council and GORRT in driving priority actions and helping to implement initiatives that sustainably grow the visitor economy.

“This will help identify new opportunities to attract visitors and strengthen local businesses.”

Council’s manager economy and prosperity Katy McMahon will chair the group.

“Community participation is essential to creating a thriving, prosperous future,” she said.

“Tourism is a cornerstone of Corangamite’s economy – by bringing local knowledge, experience and passion to the table, this group will help support practical actions which grow visitation, strengthen local businesses and showcase what makes our shire truly special.

“Tourism brings economic confidence, creates local jobs and helps ensure Corangamite remains a vibrant and prosperous place to live, work and visit.

“The Reference Group will play an important role in helping council and GORRT deliver the outcomes of the Destination Action Plan”.

Expressions of interest are open to people who own or operate a tourism business in Corangamite, are part of a tourism related community group, work for an organisation involved in or supporting the visitor economy or can demonstrate industry experience, strong networks and a commitment to promoting Corangamite as a great place to visit.
