This Week in Heytesbury we’ll wrap-up the Association Fours Championship and preview what is happening next week.

This Week in Heytesbury we’ll wrap-up the Association Fours Championship and preview what is happening next week.
So, get rolling. Last Wednesday saw the association fours championship being played at Camperdown BC and let’s start with Camperdown – Roelie Maslin, Margaret Ovens(sub), Patsy Neal, Les Pearson(s) playing Glenormiston – Jenny Meade(sub), David Ham, Jim Wallace, Scott Pierce and Glenormiston got off to a good start with a pair of singles to open the match.
Camperdown opened their account with a single on end three but Glenormiston responded with a single and a double on the next two ends to take the lead 5-1 after five ends.
But it only takes one end to right the ship and on end six, Camperdown bagged a quad to level the playing field and then a single on end seven to take the lead.
Unfortunately, end eight was not lucky for Camperdown Skip Les taking the jack off the mat with Glenormiston picking up a triple on the replay.
Glenormiston would continue to score, restricting Camperdown to a single for the rest of the match.
Camperdown lost to Glenormiston, 7-18.
Glenormiston would meet Scotts Creek in the Semi Finals.
Meanwhile on the other side of the draw, Simpson – Pieta van Donk, Scott Ryan, Harvey Robbins, Lyndon Rogerson(s) playing Cobden – Pam Savage, Cody Childs, Doreen Coverdale, David Childs(s) and Simpson started the match with a quad and Cobden opened their account with a double on the following end.
Simpson resumed normal service with a fiver and a pair of singles on ends three through five before Cobden secured a valuable penta to reduce the deficit to four on end six.
Simpson continued scoring on the next two ends with a double and a single before tragedy struck on end nine.
Unfortunately for Cobden Third Doreen, she knocked the jack off the mat and Simpson grabbed a single on the replay.
Try as they might, Cobden could only manage a triple and a single for the remainder of the match. Honourable mention to Cobden Second Cody for taking jack off the mat.
Simpson defeated Cobden, 25-11.
Simpson would meet Timboon Lawn in the Semi Finals.
In the Semi Finals, Scotts Creek – Helen Hobbs, Peter Baker(sub), Joan Laing, Allen Armistead(s) met Glenormiston.
Glenormiston started the match with a single and a double in the first two ends of the match.
Scotts Creek started their campaign with a triple on the following end.
Glenormiston continued with a single and a double on ends five and six with Scotts Creek bagging a single on the next end to trail by two shots.
Glenormiston responded with a double on end eight before tragedy struck on the next end.
Unfortunately for Scotts Creek Skip Allen, jack ran off the mat and Glenormiston picked up a triple on the replay.
Scotts Creek would secure a single on the next end.
Unfortunately for Scotts Creek Lead Helen, also took the jack off the mat, with Glenormiston bagging a single on the replay.
Scotts Creek would mount a late charge gaining six shots for the remainder of the match.
Scotts Creek lost to Glenormiston, 17-11.
Glenormiston would meet the winner of the next match.
In the second Semi Final, Simpson played Timboon Lawn – Lara Mungean(sub), Jim Mungean, Jacoba Mungean, Murray Lucas(s) and Timboon Lawn got off to a flyer, scoring ten shots in the first five ends of the match.
Simpson scored a single on the next end to start their campaign however, Timboon Lawn continued with six shots on ends seven through nine.
Unfortunately for Timboon Lawn Skip Murray, the jack left the mat, with Simpson securing a single on the replay.
Unfortunately for Simpson Third Harvey, also took the jack off the the mat, with Timboon Lawn picking up a single on the replay.
Timboon lawn defeated Simpson 23-11 and Timboon Lawn meet Glenormiston in the Grand Final.
The Grand Final between Glenormiston and Timboon Lawn started off quite strong for Timboon lawn scoring eight shots in the first three ends of the match.
Glenormiston started their campaign with a pair of doubles, a triple and another double on ends four through seven to counter Timboon Lawn’s excellent start.
The counter was a double on end eight to Timboon Lawn to re-take the lead, however Glenormiston locked it all up on end nine with a single at ten all.
They say it only takes one end to change a match and for Timboon Lawn, end ten was a boon for them scoring a fiver, followed by a single on the next end to lead by four shots with half as many ends to go.
A double to Glenormiston on the penultimate end, left them with a chance on the last end.
Glenormiston lost to Timboon Lawn 14-19.
Congratulations to the 2022 Association Fours Champions Timboon Lawn – Lara Mungean, Jim Mungean, Jacoba Mungean and Murray Lucas-Mungean and well done to the runners-up Glenormiston – Jenny Meade, David Ham, Jim Wallace, Scott Pierce.
Reports were that despite the match going into the wee hours of Thursday morning, it was a good match to watch and quite the roller coaster.
This concludes the HIBBA Championship events for 2022 however, the next event is the Association Triples Tournament tonight.
Provided there are enough numbers to hold the event, names to Joyce Roberts by Wednesday 10am on 5595 1068.
