This Week in Heytesbury starts off on a sombre note with the passing of Nancy Currell.

Our condolences go to Dianne and Arthur Finch and families on the passing of Dianne’s mother.

The pennant competition is starting to heat up as we approach the half way mark.

Starting this week’s division one coverage, we had Laang-Ecklin hosting Timboon Lawn (2) and singles either way started off the match.

Then the home side went on a tear, scoring nine shots including a sixer on ends three through six to take an early lead 10-1.

A much-needed single on the next end of the visitors stopped the momentum. Laang-Ecklin resumed their campaign, with a triple on end eight and Timboon Lawn (2) added another single to their score, trailing 3-13.

Three shots either way on ends nine through 12 didn’t help the visitors’ cause and even two shots either way on the next three ends only strengthened the home team’s position.

Even a no result (both sides touching jack) was an unwanted result for the visitors, with Laang-Ecklin winning their first match of the season against Timboon Lawn (2) 20-13.

The next match was Timboon Lawn (1) hosting Camperdown (3) and the home side opened the match with a single.

On the second end of the match however, Timboon lawn (1) second Dianne politely told jack to “sort itself out” off the mat and scored a single on the replay to level the score two all.

On the very next end, it was Camperdown (3) lead Maureen that sent jack to another world but managed to get a double on the replay to lead 4-3.

Ends four through seven were all Timboon Lawn (1), adding six shots to their ledger to lead 9-4.

A double by Camperdown (3) on end eight halted the momentum of the home side and kept them within touch 6-9.

The visitors would score another double for the rest of the night, with Timboon Lawn (1) defeating Camperdown (3) 30-8.

The third match was Camperdown (1) hosting Cobden (1) and the match started off even with singles both ways to open the match.

On ends three through eight though, the visitors would score fifteen shots to the home side’s single.

The next end however, Cobden (1) skip Glenn told jack to stay on the mat (which it didn’t) and Camperdown (1) grabbed a double on the replay.

Cobden (1) would score five shots back on the next two ends and three more for the remainder of the match, with Camperdown (1) defeated Cobden (1) 33-10.

Rounding out the division one coverage this week, was Scotts Creek (1) hosting Camperdown (2) and for those who love some jack action, this one is for you.

The match started out pretty evenly with the visitors drawing first blood with a single, followed by the home side with a double.

End three was where Camperdown (2)’s third Ron A. and skip Ron C. were fighting for jack’s attention off the mat with both having a crack each, but after the third time, Scotts Creek (1) grabbed a quad on the replay.

In the next three ends, the visitors scored a much-needed pair of doubles to the home side’s single.

On end seven however, jack disliked the attitude of Camperdown (2)’s skip Ron C. towards itself and went off the mat, with Scotts Creek (1) scoring four on the replay and leading 22-5.

The night didn’t get much better for the visitors, with Camperdown (2) third Ron A. sending jack away on end 10 and skip Ron C. sending jack to HR on end 15, with Scotts Creek (1) defeating Camperdown (2) 38-12.

Your division one top four this week are: Timboon Lawn (1), Scotts Creek (1), Timboon Lawn (2), Camperdown (1).

This week’s division two action kicks off this week with Camperdown (4) hosting Cobden (2) and the visitors opened the match with a double, promptly followed by a home side triple on the next end.

Cobden (2) didn’t stop there, scoring six shots on ends three through six while Camperdown (4) scored a single and a double on the following two ends to remain in touch 6-8.

End nine wasn’t pleasant for Camperdown (4) Third Micheal, giving jack a stern talking to off the mat but Cobden (2) scored a single on the replay.

Doubles either way progressed the match forward, with the home side scoring a single on end 12 to trail 9-14.

On the very next end, Cobden (2) second Garrett ran out of real estate and jack went off the mat but scored a single on the replay leading 15-11.

A single to Camperdown (4) kept them within three shots – that was until end 15.

Camperdown (4) skip Les and third Michael respectively spoke with jack off the mat and Camperdown (4) got a single on the replay.

A sixer on end 16 would get the home team within four shots, but the visitors shut them out for the last two ends. Camperdown (4) lost to Cobden (2) 19-27.

The next match was Scotts Creek (2) hosting Timboon Lawn (3) and both teams started off with three shots each in as many ends.

Singles either way changed little, until the visitors broke away with a quad and a double on ends six and seven to lead 10-4.

Doubles either way on the next two ends altered little, with the home side scoring a triple on end 10 and the visitors replying with a quad on the next end.

On end 12 however, Scotts Creek (2) skip Neville ushered jack off the mat for some much needed respite but managed a single on the replay.

The home side started to mount a late charge, scoring seven shots to the visitors’ four shots but it was not quite enough.

Scotts Creek (2) lost to Timboon Lawn (3) 17-24.

Our next match was Simpson (1) hosting Glenormiston (1) and the visitors started the match with seven shots to the home team’s single in the first four ends of the match.

Glenormiston (1) were then stuck on seven for nine ends, as Simpson (2) added nineteen shots to their score and leading 20-7.

Two singles and a fiver were scored in the remainder of the match for the visitors, but the damage was already done. Simpson (2) defeated Glenormiston (1) 23-14.

Closing out the division two coverage this week was Timboon Lawn (4) hosting Glenormiston (2) and the match started out in a reliable pattern – two ends to the home side, two to the visitors.

The first two ends, the home side picked up a pair of doubles, followed by the visitors single and double.

Timboon Lawn (4) would then pick up a triple and a single on ends five and six, followed by Glenormiston (2) picking up a triple and a double on ends seven and eight to level the scores at eight all.

The visitors switched the momentum with a single and triple in the next two ends, followed by a home side single and double on ends 11 and 12 to trail 11-12.

On the next end however, Glenormiston (2) skip Ron H. displaced jack off the mat and Timboon Lawn (4) grabbed a single on the replay to lead 16-12 with five ends to play.

The visitors mounted a late charge, with a single and a double on ends 14 and 15 to trail by one shot with three ends to play.

Timboon Lawn (4) bagged a vital single on end 16 to extend their lead to two shots with two ends to play.

On the penultimate end, Glenormiston (2) secured a precious triple to take the lead by one shot with the last end to play.

In what must have been a tense end for both sides, Timboon Lawn (4) lost to Glenormiston (2) 17-21.

Your division two top four this week are: Glenormiston (2), Timboon Lawn (4), Cobden (2), Timboon Lawn (3).

Division three coverage is right here and we start this week with Simpson (2) hosting Peterborough and both sides started off the match with a double.

The visitors broke the deadlock with a single, then the home side scored a double and a triple on ends four and five to take an early lead 7-3.

Ends six through eight were all singles for Peterborough to keep in touch 6-7.

Unfortunately for Peterborough, they could only manage a single for the remainder of the match. Simpson (2) defeated Peterborough 23-7.

The next match was Glenormiston (3) hosting Scotts Creek (3) and the match started off pretty evenly with both sides scoring two shots each in the first four ends.

The home side broke away, adding twelve shots to their tally and a no score on end nine didn’t help matters for the visitors.

On the next end however, Scotts Creek (3) skip Ian was a little too accurate with jack and it went off the mat with Glenormiston (3) scoring a double on the replay.

The visitors clawed back four shots to the home team’s lonely single on ends 11 through 14 but that was where the night ended.

Scotts Creek (3)’s skip Ian disagreed with jack twice more on the last two ends of the match and Glenormiston (3) scored on the replays.

For what it’s worth, the match wasn’t reflective of the score and there were plenty of times where heads were tight. Glenormiston (3) defeated Scotts Creek (3) 35-6.

Ending this week’s pennant coverage was Glenormiston (4) hosting Wiridjil and unfortunately for Wiridjil, they had to forfeit. Hopefully, next week brings better news.

Your division three top four this week: Glenormiston (3), Glenormiston (4), Simpson (2), Peterborough.
