THIS week we’ll get straight into it with Round 11 Pennant action and the Finals are calling with three rounds to go.
Starting this week’s Division one coverage, we have Cobden 1 hosting Timboon Lawn 1 and both teams started out with a single either way to open the match. Timboon Lawn 1 then had a burst of
scoring with a single, six and a single to take the lead 9-1 after five ends.
Cobden 1 then rallied, picking up six shots to Timboon Lawn 1’s quad trailing by eight shots on end 10.
A double and single either way on ends 11 through 14 progressed the match closer to its end but the homeside mounted a late charge, scoring a much needed eight shots to be within one shot on the last end. The fairy tale didn’t quite come true.
Timboon Lawn 1 def. Cobden 1, 17-15.
The next match was Camperdown 2 hosting Laang-Ecklin and the visitors scored two shots to the home team’s quad in the first three ends of the match. The homeside continued with a quad and a triple but a no score on end six didn’t help Laang-Ecklin’s cause but the next four ends did.
Camperdown 2 Lead Dianne and Skip Ron C showed jack off the mat on ends seven and 10 respectively with Laang-Ecklin scoring singles on both replays and took the lead 12-11 after 10 ends.
A triple to the visitors helped but the home side not done yet scored a single and a triple to make it fifteen all with five ends to play.
Camperdown 2 broke the silence with a double on the next end, with Laang-Ecklin securing a single on end 15 to remain in touch. But when Camperdown 2 scored a quad with two ends to play, it was a bridge too far.
Camperdown 2 defeating Laang-Ecklin 22-17.
The third match was the battle of the Camperdowns – 3 v 1 and the “visitors” scored nine shots in the first seven ends of the match. The homeside scored a single on end seven but their night wouldn’t get much better.
Camperdown 3 lost to Camperdown 1, 6-25.
Rounding out the Division 1 coverage this week, was Timboon Lawn 2 hosting Scotts Creek 1 and both sides scored seven shots in the first six ends of the match.
The homeside then led the charge, doubling their score on ends seven through nine before the visitors could arrest the rush with a single on the next end.
Unfortunately for Timboon Lawn 2 lead Neville took jack off the mat but Scotts Creek 1 picked up a single on the replay but by then, the damage was done.
Timboon Lawn 2 def. Scotts Creek 1, 21- 11.
Your Division 1 top four this week are: Timboon Lawn 2, Timboon Lawn 1, Scotts Creek 1, Camperdown 1.
This week’s Division 2 action heats up with 12 points separating 1st from 5th.
Kicking off this week with Glenormiston 1 hosting Camperdown 4 and both sides scored four shots in the first three ends of the match.
The home side picked up a double to break the silence but the visitors managed a single on end five to remain in touch.
From there, Glenormiston 1 took control of ends six through 13 adding sixteen shots to their tally with six ends to play and the rest of the match with Camperdown 4 only scoring two singles for the remainder of the match.
Glenormiston 1 def. Camperdown 4, 27-7.
The next match was Glenormiston 2 hosting Scotts Creek 2 and the visitors got off to a good start with five singles to open the match. The home side would open with two singles on ends six & seven but Scotts Creek 2 countered with a double on the next end leading 7-2.
On end nine however, it was a joint effort by Glenormiston 2 Skip Ron and Scotts Creek 2 Skip Neville to displace jack off the mat but Glenormiston 2 picked up a double on the replay.
A single to the visitors kept the home side at bay before Glenormiston 2 picked up a rare octuplet to take the lead 16-12.
Scotts Creek 2 would only score four more shots for the rest of the match but honourable mentions to Scotts Creek 2 lead Joyce and skip Neville with jack re-education on end 16.
Glenormiston 2 def. Scotts Creek 2, 29-16.
Our next match was Timboon Lawn 3 hosting Simpson 1 and the home side got off to a good start but by end seven, the score was level at five all.
Simpson 1 broke the impasse with a double on the next end but for Timboon lawn 3 skip Murray jack extended jack off the mat but managed a double on the replay. The night didn’t improve much beyond a pair of singles for the visitors.
Simpson 1 def. Timboon Lawn 3, 25-9.
Closing out the Division 2 coverage this week was Cobden 2 hosting Timboon Lawn 4 and the visitors got off to a good start but by end nine, the scores were all locked up at nine all.
Singles either way altered little but Cobden 2’s single on end 12 kept them in front. And then on the end unlucky for some, Timboon Lawn 4 third Keith took the jack off the mat with Cobden 2 picking up a single on the replay.
The home side picked up a double on the following end to lead 17-10 but the visitors grabbed a much needed triple to trail by four shots but that is as close as they got.
Cobden 2 def. Timboon Lawn 4, 20-14.
Your Division 2 top 5 this week are: Glenormiston 1 – 32pts; Timboon Lawn 4 – 26 pts; Simpson 1 – 24pts, 129.1%; Glenormiston 2 – 24 pts, 119.1%; Cobden 2 – 24pts, 101.1%.
Division 3 coverage is right here and we start this week with Peterborough hosting Simpson 2 and the homeside got off to a great start, scoring seven shots in the first four ends of the match.
Unfortunately for Peterborough, that is where they would end of the match. Try as they might, the Simpson 2 team denied them at every turn.
Peterborough losing to Simpson 2, 7-23.
The next match was Scotts Creek 3 hosting Glenormiston 3 and the visitors started the match with a single and a triple but by end five, the home side squared the match up at three all.
Doubles either way in the next two ends changed little. Scotts Creek 3 scored a single to take the lead but Glenormiston 3 picked up a quad on end 12 to re-take the lead 9-6.
Singles either way progressed the match forward until end 12. There were bowls either side and in close proximity for a glance, slide, wick, whatever but for Scotts Creek 3 skip Ian, his bowl was too accurate but managed a single on the replay.
Scotts Creek 3 lost to Glenormiston 3, 12-17.
Ending this week’s Pennant coverage was Wiridjil hosting Glenormiston 4 and the visitors got off to a flyer, scoring fifteen shots to the home side’s single in the first nine ends of the match.
Wiridjil did reply with eight shots on ends 10 through 13 to be within six shots but Glenormiston 4 broke away, despite third Deb taking the jack off the mat. Wiridjil lost to Glenormiston 4, 14-22.
Your Division 3 top four this week: Glenormiston 3, Glenormiston 4, Simpson 2, Peterborough.

For the Mungeans, they met the Warrnambool team of Allen Armistead, Peter Neale and Karl Keegan in round 1 and were defeated. Tom, Max & Scott played the Ballarat team with Ian Hedger at the helm in the first round and defeated them 18-5.

While our buys were leading early, it eventually went to an extra end and went down by one shot short of a Grand Final berth. Well done fellas.

For Doreen, Margaret and Joyce, they faced the Ballarat team with Yvonne Clarke skipping in round 1 and were defeated. This was another close match, moving on to the Grand Final, where they met up with the second Warrnambool team with Barb & Anne Draffen and Jacinta Marney. It was a titanic struggle as you expect in a Final but our Ladies were victorious in winning the 2022 VIBBA Ladies Triples title.
Congratulations to Pam, Jenny and honorary Heytesbury member Dianne Tobin for filling in.
For the Heytesbury v Warrnambool South West Challenge, names to be in by Tuesday, July 5 or as soon as possible and the date has been altered to be on Sunday, July15, 2022.
That’s about all for This Week in Heytesbury and next week, we take a step closer to The Road to Finals. See you then.
