Last Sunday, the inaugural South West Challenge was held at Timboon Sports Stadium.
The new event between Heytesbury and Indoor Bowls Warrnambool aims to be an annual event between the two associations, with Pairs and Fours teams pitting their skills against each other to see who will win overall on the day.
Out of the twelve teams for Heytesbury, three teams were successful: Mixed Fours Champions – George Fox (s), Margaret Hester, Phil Dowdell and Val Blake – the only four game winners for the day;
Open Pairs Champions – Jason Mungean (s) & Pam Dwyer; Open Pairs runners-up – Pam Wines (s) & Jenny Meade. Fun fact: Pam and Jenny denied Warrnambool’s George Draffen and Jacinta Marney of a medal by one shot.
Warrnambool won the South West Challenge overall with 25.5 wins, +4 shots to Heytesbury’s 22.5 wins.
A great day was had by all who attended and thanks goes to George Draffen and Jacinta Marney from Indoor Bowls Warrnambool and Pam, Max and Kathryn Wines for venue setup and lunch from Terang Bakery as well as everyone else who helped out in making the event such a success.
See you next week
