This Week in Heytesbury we’re ready for finals action.

We start off with the final round of pennant action and this is the moment teams have been working towards all season.

Starting this week’s Division 1, Camperdown 1 hosting Timboon Lawn 2 and both sides picked up a single and a double each in the first four ends of the match.

The home side broke the impasse with a pair of singles on the next two ends, while the visitors replied with a single on seventh.

Ends eight through 11 were mostly Camperdown 1, adding ten shots to their score, while Timboon Lawn 2 only scored a single during that time.

The visitors added a much needed double on the next end but would only add another single to their score.

Camperdown 1 defeated Timboon Lawn 2, 24-8.

The next match was Scotts Creek 1 hosting Camperdown 3 and the home side got off to a flyer, picking up thirteen shots in the first three ends of the match including Camperdown 3 third Margaret knocking the jack’s off the mat.

The visitors opened their account with five shots on ends four through seven but were countered with the home side picking up a quad and a double on ends eight & nine.

A trio of singles for Camperdown 3 on ends ten through 12 were welcome but were met with Scotts creek 1 scoring a pair of doubles on ends 13 & 14.

The visitors closed out the match with five shots.

Scotts Creek 1 defeating Camperdown 3, 23-13. The third match was Laang-Ecklin hosting Cobden 1 and the home side picked up four shots to the visitors’ two shots in the first four ends of the match.

Laang-Ecklin then proceeded to push forward, adding a further nine shots to their score on ends five through nine.

Cobden 2 picked a valuable double on the next end but both sides scored four singles each to close out the match.

Laang-Ecklin defeated Cobden 1, 17-8.

Rounding out the Division 1 coverage this week, was Timboon Lawn 1 hosting Camperdown 2 and both sides scored two shots each in the first three ends of the match.

The home side broke the silence with five shots to the visitors’ four shots on the next four ends.

Unfortunately on the next Camperdown 2 skip Ron C. took the jack off the matt on the next but got a double on the replay.

A single to the home side and a double to the visitors kept the tight match moving forward until end 11.

Unfortunately for Camperdown 2 third Les, also took the jack off. Not to be outdone, Timboon Lawn 1 skip Brett had his moment taking the jack off.

Camperdown 2 picked up a double on the replay to lead by one on end 11.

The visitors applied the pressure, scoring five shots on ends 12 through 14 and singles either way progressed the match forward to the last two ends.

Timboon Lawn 1 needed six shots in two ends to draw and a double on the penultimate end helped their cause.

On the last end, the home side could only muster a triple.

Timboon Lawn 1 lost to Camperdown 2, 21-22.

Your Division 1 ladder: Timboon Lawn 1 – 44pts; Timboon Lawn 2 – 40pts; Scotts Creek 1 – 38pts; Camperdown 1 – 32pts; Camperdown 2 – 30pts; Laang-Ecklin – 16pts, 83.8%; Cobden 1 – 16pts, 67.9%; Camperdown 3 – 8pts.

This week’s Division 2 action kicks off this week with Timboon Lawn 4 hosting Glenormiston 1 and the home side opened the match with five shots to the visitors double in the first four ends of the match.

Timboon Lawn 4 then picked up a single and a triple on ends five and seven, while Glenormiston 1 picked up a double on end six to remain in touch.

Singles either way on ends eight & nine changed little, even a single to the home side and a double to the visitors closed the gap to four shots.

Timboon Lawn 4 then had a burst of scoring on ends 12 through 14, adding five shots, before Glenormiston 1 picked up a quad to be within five shots on end 15.

Unfortunately for Glenormiston 1 skip Max, knock off the jack and Timboon Lawn 4 picked up a double on the replay.

Despite the visitors picking up a much needed five shots on the remainder of the match.

Timboon Lawn 4 defeated Glenormiston 1, 22-16.

The next match was Camperdown 4 hosting Timboon Lawn 3 and the home side scored a triple to the visitors’ pair of singles in the first three ends.

Singles either way changed little and even a double on end six to Camperdown 4, while a single to Timboon Lawn 3 kept the visitors in touch.

Unfortunately for Camperdown 4 second Michèle, knocked the jack off with Timboon Lawn 3 picking up a double on the replay to re-take the lead.

That was short lived because unfortunately for Timboon Lawn 3 skip Murray, taking the jack and Camperdown 3 picked up a single on the replay.

The home side then pressed the advantage, adding a further eleven shots on ends 10 through 13.

Despite Timboon Lawn 3 then mounted a late charge, shutting out the home side for the rest of the match.

Camperdown 4 defeated Timboon Lawn 3, 22-15.

Our next match was Scotts Creek 2 hosting Cobden 2 and the home side opened the match with a double but the visitors picked up a trip of doubles on ends two through four to take an early lead.

Scotts Creek 2 picked up a double on the next end but Cobden 2 replied with a single on the sixth end.

The home side countered with a pair of singles to remain within one shot, until the visitors picked up a triple to lead 10-6 after 9 ends.

Scotts Creek 2 picked up a quad on the next end to level the score at ten all, then proceeded to pick up a trio of singles on ends 11 through 13 to re-take the lead 13-10.

Cobden 2 then had their turn with a double, triple and single on ends 14 through 16 and re-taking the lead again 16-13 with 2 ends to play.

Not done yet, the home side picked up a much needed double to trail by one shot on the last end.

Scotts Creek 2 lost to Cobden 2, 15-17.

Closing out the Division 2 coverage this week was Glenormiston 2 hosting Simpson 1 and the visitors kicked off the match with eight shots to the home sides’ four shots in the first seven ends of the match.

Ends seven through 11 progressed the match forward, with both sides scoring four shots each.

Unfortunately for Glenormiston third Jenny and Simpson 1 skip Lyndon, both knocked jack off and Glenormiston 2 picked up a single on the replay to be within two shots on end 12.

Unfortunately for Simpson 1 third Gary, also knock the jack off, with Glenormiston 2 picking up a double on the replay and taking the lead 18-15.

The visitors replied with a quad on end 14 to re-take the lead but the home side squared it back up with a single to be nineteen all with three ends to play.

Simpson 1 applied pressure and picked up a triple and a double on ends 16 & 17.

Glenormiston 2 lost to Simpson 1, 20-24.

Your Division 2 ladder: Simpson 1 – 32pts, 124.6%; Glenormiston 1 – 32pts, 114.2%; Cobden 2 – 32pts, 100.9%; Glenormiston 2 – 30pts, 119.3%; Timboon Lawn 4 – 30pts, 111.9%; Timboon Lawn 3 – 26pts; Camperdown 4 – 24pts; Scotts Creek 2 – 14pts.

Division 3 coverage is right here and we start this week with Peterborough hosting Scotts Creek 3 and the home side picked up three shots to the visitors’ single in the first three ends of the match.

Peterborough then picked up a pair of singles on ends four & five but Scotts Creek 3 picked up a double and a pair of singles on ends six through eight to level the match at five all.

The home side picked up a double on the next end to break the deadlock, before the visitors picked up a trio of singles on ends 10 through 12 to take a one shot lead.

Peterborough had other ideas though, adding a single to their ledger to square up the match at eight all with five ends to play.

Unfortunately for Scotts Creek 3, that is where the night ended for them.

Peterborough defeating Scotts Creek 3, 22-8.

The end score wasn’t representative of the match in general and this will be Peterborough’s first final since playing Pennant in 2019.

The next match was supposed to be Glenormiston 3 hosting Wiridjil but unfortunately for Wiridjil, they forfeited the match to Glenormiston 3.

Ending this week’s Pennant coverage was Simpson 2 hosting Glenormiston 4 and both sides scored three shots each in as many ends to start the match.

The visitors then pushed forward, adding a single and a double on the next two ends, before the home side replied with a pair of singles on ends six & seven.

A double on the next end for Glenormiston 4 kept their slim lead but Simpson 2 scored five shots on ends ninth through 11 to re-take the lead 10-8.

But not before the visitors got back what they lost on ends 12 through 14 to re-take the lead again.

Singles either way on ends 15 & 16 pushed the game towards its end and the home side scoring a single on the penultimate end made the equation simple – 2 shots to draw on the last end.

Simpson 2 lost to Glenormiston 4, 12-16.

Your Division 3 ladder: Glenormiston 3 – 48pts, 177.1%; Glenormiston 4 – 48pts, 156.0%; Simpson 2 – 28pts; Peterborough – 20pts; Scotts Creek 3 – 16pts; Wiridjil – 8pts.

Next week, the Semi Finals will be played at Timboon Sporting Complex this Wednesday. 7.45pm roll-up for an 8pm start. In Division 1, Timboon Lawn 1 v Timboon Lawn 2 and Scotts Creek 1 v Camperdown 1.

For Division 2, Simpson 1 v Glenormiston 1 and Cobden 2 v Glenormiston 2.

Rounding up the Finals action in Division 3, Glenormiston 3 v Glenormiston 4 and Simpson 2 v Peterborough.

Spectators are most welcome this year and we hope as many people attend to make this a finals series one to remember.

Last Sunday, the VIBBA Pairs were played at Sunshine and Heytesbury was well represented. We’ll start with the Men first and Heytesbury had two teams – Glenn Heard and Scott Pierce and Brett Mungean and Arthur Finch.

In the first round, Glenn and Scott defeated the Bacchus Marsh team skippered by Les Williams to progress into the Quarter Finals.

Brett and Arthur defeated the Northern District team skippered by Sean Ingram.

In the Quarter Finals, Glenn and Scott were defeated by the WAAIA team of Ian Swain and Les Clarke.

For Brett and Arthur, they defeated the South Group team skippered by Bob Constable. In the Semi Finals, Brett and Arthur were defeated by the other Bacchus Marsh team skippered by Glenn Sargent.

For the Ladies there were two teams – Pam Dwyer and Jean Clover and Pam Wines and Trish Speechley (Ballarat).

Both teams had byes in the first round into quarter finals where Pam & Jean defeated the Ballarat team skippered by Yvonne Clarke.

Pam and Trish defeated the South Group team skippered by Hermiese Constable.

In the semi-finals, Pam and Jean met the other Ballarat team skippered by Elizabeth Kierce and booked a place in the final, defeating them 15-11.

Pam and Trish met the other south group team skippered by Karen Brodie and defeated them to book an all-Heytesbury womens pairs grand final.

Congratulations to Pam Wines and Trish Speechley on their title and well done to Pam Dwyer and Jean Clover who were trying for back-to-back titles.
