A good crowd arrived to watch all of the Semi Final bowls action from above.

This week in Heytesbury, we have almost reached the summit of the pennant action.

Let’s get straight into it...

We start this week’s coverage with semi-finals action and kicking it all off is Division 1.

Our first semi-final is between top of the table Timboon Lawn 1 (Brett Mungean, Arthur and Dianne Finch, Pam Dwyer) playing second place Timboon Lawn 2 (Jason and Noah Mungean, Ash Quick, Jacoba Mungean) and the action started early with Timboon Lawn 2 skip Jason taking jack off the mat, but scoring a double on the replay.

The home side then captured a double on the next end, to which the visitors replied with a single on end three.

Ends four through nine changed little with the home side picking up five shots to the visitors’ four shots, until Timboon Lawn 1 pressed forward by scoring a trio of triples on the next three ends to lead 17-7 with six ends to play.

The visitors replied back with a valuable double of their own on the next end and doubles either way on ends 14 and 15 pushed the match closer to its natural end.

With three ends to play, tragedy struck.

Unfortunately for Timboon Lawn 1 skip Brett, took the jack off the mat and Timboon Lawn 2 managed to bag a quad to level the scores at eighteen all with two ends to play.

The visitors then bagged another quad on the penultimate end, while the home side could only manage a single.

Timboon Lawn 1 lost to Timboon Lawn 2, 19-22.

Timboon Lawn 2 have booked themselves a place in the Grand Final but for Timboon Lawn 1, they had another match to play last Friday against the winner of the next match.

The next match was between third placed Scotts Creek 1 (Allen Armistead, Jan Hutchinson, Joan Laing, Neville Robb) playing fourth place Camperdown 1 (Gary Body, Kelvin Rundle, Nola Duncan and Jack Paase) and the visitors opened the match with a double while the home side opened their account with a single on the next end.

The home side then continued to score on ends three through seven, adding nine shots to their score taking an early lead.

Unfortunately for Scotts Creek 1 Allen, ran the jack off the mat and Camperdown 1 picked up a single on the replay to be within three shots.

The home side kept up the scoring pressure on ends nine through 11, adding a further four shots to extend their lead to seven shots.

Singles either way progressed the match forward, while Camperdown 1 picked up a pair of much needed doubles to be within three shots with as many ends remaining.

Scotts Creek 1 dug in however, picking up a double and a single on ends 16 & 17 to protect their lead by six shots with one end to play.

The visitors were throwing everything at it on the last end but could only score a quad.

The visitors then applied the pressure early, adding a further nine shots on ends four through seven to take an early lead.

The one side then scored a quad to remain within five shots on the next end.

Singles either way progressed the match forward and two shots either way on ends 11 through 13 kept Glenormiston 2’s five shot lead with as many ends left.

Singles either way on the next two ends kept the match tight and Simpson 1 scored a single on end 16 to trail by four shots with two ends to go.

On the penultimate end, Glenormiston 2 picked up a double to extend their lead by six shots with the last end to play.

The home side then scored a double on the next end to open their account but was immediately matched by the visitors on end nine.

Cobden 1 then had a small run, adding four shots to their ledger on ends 10 through 12, before Glenormiston 2 halted the momentum with a single on the next end.

Cobden 2 only scored a pair of doubles for the rest of the night, with one of said doubles on a replay after Cobden 1 lead Bill then took jack off the mat on the penultimate end.

On end 14, Glenormiston 3 lead Thelma led the jack off the mat but this time, Glenormiston 4 picked up a much needed triple.

With four ends to play, the home side picked up a quad to match the last end and maintain their lead but that would be eroded with Glenormiston 4 picking up seven shots to close out the match.

Unfortunately for Peterborough Skip Charles, jack went off the mat to get a better job offer but got it after scoring a double on the replay.

A single to Peterborough levelled the scores at eight all on end six and even singles either way couldn’t separate both teams.

Simpson 2 would bag a double on end nine but Peterborough would reply with a pair of singles on ends 10 & 11 to trail by one shot.

The home side then applied pressure to the visitors to score a sextuplet on the next end and the visitors replied with a single on end 13 to trail by six with five ends left.
