HIBBA bowls action returns
HEYTESBURY Indoor Bias Bowls action has commenced for season 2026.
More than 50 players enjoyed opening night in April.
Seven mats got the new season started at the Simpson Hall with some good bowls and plenty of banter.
In the end, there were two teams on 64 points for the evening.
The runners-up with seven shots up were the team of Jason Mungean (s), Neville Page, Les Lenehan and Roelie Maslin.
The winners with nine shots up were Scott Pierce (s), Lyn Payne and Marlene Page.
A few days’ later, a new event was launched – called the East West Tournament, where players from the Colac area and Heytesbury go head-to-head for bragging rights and good bowls practice before pennant starts.
Six teams from either side played in two sections.
Section one:
Best Colac team: Phil Riches(s), Tim Ryan, Tracy Hedgeans, Marg Riches.
Runners-up, Heytesbury: Pam Wines (s), Ron Simcox, Jason Pearson, Graeme Chamberlain.
Winners, Heytesbury: Allen Armistead (s), Helen Harney, Max Wines, Roelie Maslin.
Section two:
Best Colac team: Gary Langenhuizen(s), Cath Laidlaw, Stuart Robb, Ed Williamson.
Runners-up, Heytesbury: Jason Mungean (s), Debbie Cheslett, Ken Buck, Sophie Pearson
Winners, Heytesbury: Alan Beasy (s), Rita Mungean, John Farrer, Liz Riches
Overall tournament winners were Heytesbury with 486 points over Colac on 234 points.
A fantastic day was had by all and was such a success that this will feature as a regular event in the season.
The following Wednesday, round one of pennant season started.
This year, divisions two and three merged into one competition but at the end of the home and away season, will split based on results; the top half of the ladder will play in division two finals and the rest will play in division three finals.

Division two/three:
Glenormiston 3 (Max Heard (s), Noel Uebergang, Ray Bond, Gavin Buck) def. Peterborough (Charles Martin (s), Angela Payne, Ross Wooley, Graeme Murfett) 19-6.
Cobden 2 (Joyce Roberts (s), Pam Savage, Bill Johnson, Kathryn Walsh) lost to Glenormiston 2 (Deb Cheslett (s), Maureen Bond, Rita Pasque, Danielle Gilchrist) 21-15.
Scotts Creek 1 (Allan Beasy (s), Neville Robb, Joyce Lindquist, Audrey Armistead) def. Scotts Creek 2 (Louise Blair (s), Joan Laing, Shad Hartwick, Marion Frencham) 26-13.
Camperdown 2 (Ron Absalom (s), Norma Weller, Gordon Weller, Graeme Chamberlain) def. Mepunga 4 (Rob McCrabb (s), Clarrie Matthews, Bev Byron, James Byron) 21-15.

VIBBA men’s and women’s pairs are on Saturday, May 23 at Warrnambool Arc Stadium – 8.45am roll-up for 9am start (Heytesbury on duty for setup and packdown).
VIBBA men’s and women’s fours are on Sunday, May 24 at Warrnambool Arc Stadium – 8.45am roll-up for 9am start.
Entries close for VIBBA mixed pairs and fours, men’s and women’s triples, as well as state team applications on Friday, May 29.
