Hot Shots hit the court
BUDDING tennis stars from Cobden and District Tennis Association got the chance to witness world-class tennis at the Australian Open recently.
BUDDING tennis stars from Cobden and District Tennis Association got the chance to witness world-class tennis at the Australian Open recently.
The opportunity was made available through an ANZ initiative which saw a number of local Tennis Hot Shots Community Play players receive complimentary tickets to the Melbourne Grand Slam.
Cobden and District Tennis Association was one of a number of clubs who run the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots program invited to attend a day at the world-class tennis tournament last Thursday.
The club members and parents also had the chance to meet ANZ tennis ambassador Alicia Molik when they arrived at Melbourne Park.
ANZ managing director retail distribution Catriona Noble said “we’re extremely proud to support regional clubs through the Community Play program and continue to grow the sport at a grassroots level”.
“These clubs have shown great dedication to the sport and we’re thrilled to be able to invite them to enjoy the 2019 Australian Open,” she said.
Tennis Australia chief executive officer and Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said he was “delighted” to welcome some of the ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Community Play clubs to Melbourne Park.
“We are proud of the work these clubs do in their local communities to encourage more kids to pick up a racquet and play ANZ Tennis Hot Shots and we know they will enjoy their experience at the 2019 Australian Open,” he said.
ANZ Tennis Hot Shots is Tennis Australia’s official development program with a record 543,850 children between three and 12 years of age playing ANZ Tennis Hot Shots in 2017/18.
