Ian Scott to be remembered
CAMPERDOWN’S Ian Scott will be remembered at a service at the Camperdown Cemetery next month.

CAMPERDOWN’S Ian Scott will be remembered at a service at the Camperdown Cemetery next month.
Sister Pat Scott has extended an invitation to the community to attend a graveside service on August 3 from 10.45am.
The service is part of the Vietnam Veterans Vigil, which is happening across the country at the gravesides of soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.
Gunner Ian Scott was among the 26 Australians killed during the fighting at fire support bases Coral and Balmoral.
Prior to service, he was employed at the Camperdown ANZ bank branch.
Ian was only 20 when he was drafted July 12, 1967, and he celebrated his 21st birthday the day after his passing out parade.
He married Marlene Bedgegood in the December of that year.
Ian arrived in Vietnam on May 9, 1968 and was only able to write one letter to his family before being killed in action four days later.
His body was returned for the funeral at the end of May that year, with a large crowd attending his funeral procession.
Ian wasn’t the only family member that served in the army; his father served during World War Two, and three of his uncles served during World War One and World War Two.
Ms Scott said RSL member Alan Fleming organised the service when the Vietnam Veterans Vigil placed a call out.
“They advertised all the grave sites, and they asked locals, hoping Vietnam vets would put their hands up,” she said.
“It will be a commemoration, and it will be a bit of closure for everyone who had lost someone.”
