Ideal conditions for gateball

SUNNY weather greeted players for the annual Terang Gateball Tournament last weekend.

Players travelled from as far afield as Woodville and Mt Gambier in South Australia, Warrnambool and Essendon, joining players from Terang.

Two teams played each other three times and after two games the score was level with one win apiece.

The scores remained level after game three, requiring a shootout.

Several shootouts were needed before a winner was declared – with Warrnambool taking the honours with two wins.

With unpredictable weather forecast for Sunday, it was decided to play three rounds of doubles on Saturday, leaving just three rounds for Sunday.

Some interesting games were played, with excellent skills on display.

The final scores for doubles were:

Geoff Crook and Cheryl O’Dwyer two wins, 34 games.

Leah O’Neill and Robert O’Neill two wins, 31 games.

Elaine Coverdale and David Blaxland one win, 37 gates.

Judy Stewart and Heather Fraser one win, 21 gates.
