Inaugural festival draws in crowds despite rain

Rainbow race: Hundreds of people flocked to Terang as part of the inaugural Colour Terang Festival last Friday, with the Terang Colour Dash a key attraction.

AS the saying goes – ‘You cannot have a rainbow without a little rain’.

As part of the inaugural Colour Terang Festival, the Terang and district community showed off every colour of the rainbow despite dreary weather last Friday.

Terang Progress Association president and festival co-organiser Benjamin Dennis said about 500 people enjoyed the range of attractions on offer.

“We were really happy with the turn-out,” he said.

“It was a good day despite the weather.”

Terang’s High Street was buzzing with activity, with market stalls, face painting and a giant inflatable slide among the main attractions.

Renowned 3-D artist Jimmi Buscombe was also busy bringing a section of the pavement to life, with his piece featuring a number of native birds.

Mr Dennis said a number of people travelling along the Princes Highway stopped in the town.

Another key highlight was the Sing Out Loud choir, which attracted a number of people to the Terang Civic Hall for a performance.

Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School director of choral studies Dermot Tutty conducted the choir through a number of tunes, including ‘You’ve Got a Friend’ and ‘Yellow’.

“It was wonderful to have someone with Dermot Tutty’s skill and calibre work with us,” Sing Out Loud choir co-ordinator Fiona Pugh said.

“Everyone was so inspired by Dermot Tutty’s work with us, so we hope to do this again in the future.”

Mr Dennis thanked a number of supporters for helping organise the festival, including the local Lions, Rotary and Nexus clubs, the Country Women’s Association, Terang Croquet Club, Terang Cricket Club, Steve Weston, Reid Stockfeeds, Terang Community Op Shop, Terang Country Music Festival, Corangamite Shire Council, Arts in the Avenue, Upbeat Sound and Lighting, The Nature Bus and Music Homestead.

“We have all been blown away by the support we have received and can’t wait to grow this event in the future,” he said.
