Inaugural music festival a success
THE inaugural Corangamite Music Festival saw strong crowds last Saturday, with over 140 people enjoying a variety of music genres over the course of the day.
The music festival – held at the Camperdown Theatre Royal – saw 13 local musicians performing between 10am and 8pm.
Council events and creative industries team leader Tammy Young said music genres ranged from pop and jazz to rock, with music ranging from heartfelt originals to crowd-pleasing covers of famous hits.
“Across the day, performers expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the festival, many noting how special it was to perform on a professionally equipped stage with full sound and lighting,” she said.
“For some, it was their first time experiencing such a setup, making the day extra memorable.
“The day began with strong performances from Eileen McKenzie and Ukulele Songbird, each setting the tone with engaging sets that showcased their individual styles and musical talent.
“One of the most moving moments came from young local musician Elijah Brown, who delivered a heartfelt rendition of Hallelujah in tribute to his late nanna.
“Melody Moon captivated the audience, who shared her original compositions, offering a glimpse into her unique musical style and storytelling.”
Ms Young said the music festival created a space where generations were able to connect through music.
“The crowd was treated to a nostalgic musical journey as Band O’Coots delivered a stellar performance of beloved classics, evoking memories,” she said.
“Geoff Townsend charmed the audience with a flawless set, holding them spellbound from start to finish.
“Meanwhile, The Rainbirds enjoyed enthusiastic support from the crowd, their energy and connection with the audience adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.
“Still Misbehavin’ Duo delivered a strong performance, showcasing their musical chemistry.
“Bill Gray brought a touch of country charm to the stage, while Tommy Harrold gave a strong, flamboyant performance with Elton John vibes.”
Ms Young said she was pleased to see the variety in the artists performing.
“The Amplify Youth Stage musicians Jada Mahony and Re-Spin were a testament to the creativity and enthusiasm of the next generation of musicians,” she said.
“Bringing a burst of energy and eccentric charm to the stage, Not Dead Yet closed out the Corangamite Music Festival.”
