Inaugural trivia night for auxiliary
THE Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary is shaking things up this year with its inaugural trivia night to be held towards the end of the month.
The trivia night will also see a display of artworks which have been donated back to the auxiliary for sale or simply browsing.
Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary member Jo Saunders said the idea for the trivia night came up at a regular meeting.
“The hospital auxiliary meets every few months and we were discussing new ways to raise money at a different time of the year from our annual art show, which is in September,” she said.
“We wanted something earlier in the year as well.
“We thought about having a trivia night and displaying some of the art which is donated back to the auxiliary – some people buy it and donate it back after a time for one reason or another.
“We thought it’d be fun to have a trivia night, but also have that art displayed in case someone was interested.”
The trivia night will be held on Friday, May 29 from 7.30pm at the St Paul’s Church hall at 11 Church Street, with a variety of raffles and games also on offer.
Ms Saunders said the event would be fundraising to support South West Healthcare’s current project for the Camperdown Hospital operating theatre, providing piped medical air directly into the room.
Medical air is used in inhaled anaesthetic and provides respiratory support for patients undergoing surgery and can help to reduce post-operative nausea.
The cost of installing the piped medical air is expected to be $48,000.
“That’s a really big project South West Healthcare have underway, and we’ve already donated $10,000 towards it,” Ms Saunders said.

“We’ll continue to support it because it’s quite a big project which will stop the current practice, which is changing oxygen bottles during operations – the oxygen will be piped into the room all the time, which is a more up-to-date way of doing things.
“It can also be used for the resuscitation cart for babies. It’s a really good project.”
Ms Saunders said the auxiliary was hoping for a fun night out for residents while also supporting the local hospital.
“We have invited a lot of the sporting groups and clubs from around town and they’ve responded, which is great,” she said.
“We’re hoping to have a few tables, a lot of fun and raise some money for our local hospital.
“We hope people come along, have a really fun night, get together with other community members and support our local district hospital.
“It’s really important we do that and we find ways to gather as a community which are fun.”
Entry is $10 per person, with tables of up to six or eight available.
While attendees are asked to bring their own nibbles and supper, drinks will be available to purchase at bar prices.
