Indoor bowls action continues

THERE has been plenty of Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls Association action recently, with round four of pennant and the South West Challenge.

Round four kicked off last Wednesday, with results as follows:

Division one:

Mepunga 2 (Frank Harney (s), Gerald Madden, Gayle McPherson and Karl Keegan) lost to Laang-Ecklin (Pam Wines(s), Ken Buck, Rita Mungean and Allen Cook) 14-18.

Cobden 1 (David Childs (s), Fred Salmon, Claire Reynolds and Doreen Coverdale) def. Mepunga 3 (Doug Byron (s), Les Lenehan, Julie Shiels and Don McLeod) 31-6.

Glenormiston 1 (Allen Armistead (s), Bec Heard, Deb Noonan and Scott Pierce) lost to Timboon Lawn (Jason Mungean (s), Noah Mungean, Val Blake and Pam Dwyer) 12-13.

Camperdown 1 (Les Pearson (s), Ron Simcox, Sophie Pearson and Roelie Maslin) def. Mepunga 1 (Rob McCrabb (s), Helen Harney, Sally Madden and Yvonne Lenehan) 23-13.

The top four in division one - Cobden 1 (undefeated), Mepunga 2, Laang-Ecklin and Camperdown 1.

Division two/three results:

Glenormiston 3 (Max Heard (s), Noel Uebergang, Justin Rasmussen and Gavin Buck) def. Scotts Creek 2 (Neville Robb (s), Trevor Hobbs, Helen Hobbs and Marlene Page) 17-6.

Cobden 2 (Joyce Roberts (s), Jill Lynch, Bill Johnson and Alex McGowan) def. Scotts Creek 1 (Allan Beasy (s), Marion Frencham, Joyce Lindquist and Audrey Armistead) 23-13.

Mepunga 4 (Ian Heatly (s), Clarrie Matthew, Bev Byron and John Farrer) def. Peterborough (Charles Martin (s), Angela Payne, Ross Wooley and Graeme Murfett) 21-13.

Camperdown 2 (Ron Absalom (s), Graeme Chamberlain, Elizabeth Riches and Jason Pearson) lost to Glenormiston 2 (Deb Cheslett (s), Ron Heard, Maureen Bond and Ray Bond) 15-19.

The top four in division two/three: Glenormiston 2 (undefeated), Glenormiston 3, Scotts Creek 1 and Cobden 2.

Last Sunday the South West Challenge was held between Heytesbury and Warrnambool at Simpson Hall and it was a tightly fought contest, with small margins throughout the day.

There were two sections of fours playing each other in four games of 10 ends.

Section two runners-up were Warrnambool (Karl Keegan, Clarrie Matthew, Wendy Cook and Wendy Howlett) and winners, Warrnambool (Les Lenehan, Maurice Kelly, Greg Howlett and Raylene Roberts).

Section one runners-up, Heytesbury (Jason Mungean, David Childs, Deb Cheslett and Kathryn Wines) and winners, Heytesbury (Allen Armistead, Scott Pierce, Maureen Bond and Deb Noonan).

Unfortunately, Heytesbury was defeated by Warrnambool 17.5 wins to 14.5 wins.

Warrnambool will defend its title and try for a three-peat next year at Warrnambool.

A reminder that the VIBBA men’s and women’s pairs are on this Saturday, May 23 at Warrnambool Arc stadium, 8.45am roll-up for 9am start.

Heytesbury will be on duty for set-up and pack down.

The VIBBA men’s and women’s fours are on Sunday, May 24 – also at Warrnambool ARC; 8.45am roll-up for 9am start.

Entries will close for VIBBA mixed pairs and fours, men’s and women’s triples as well as state team applications on Friday, May 29.

For any of these events, players should register their interest through their club secretary so names can be passed on to association secretary, Kathryn.
