Indoor bowls champions shine

THERE was plenty of indoor bowls action over the past week.

In division one, the battle of the Timboon’s saw Timboon Lawn 2 defeat Timboon Lawn 1, 24-17.

Glenormiston 1 got off to a great start in their match at Cobden, picking up 15 shots to the home team’s three.

Glenormiston continued its good form to take the win 24-9 which enables them to retain top stop.

The third match saw Laang-Ecklin host Mepunga 1, with the visitors recording a 15-9 victory.

Rounding out division one, the battle of the Camperdowns saw Camperdown 1 take the win in a close battle, 17-16.

The top four in division one this week are Glenormiston 1, Mepunga 1, Timboon Lawn 2 and Timboon Lawn 1.

In division two this week, Scotts Creek 1 hosted Mepunga 2 and went down 22-25.

Despite getting within one shot of victory towards the end of the day, Glenormiston 3 lost to Cobden 2, 15-17.

The third match saw Mepunga 3 host Simpson and the home side picked up nine shots to the visitors’ five shots in the first seven ends of the match.

That was as close as Simpson could get, with the home side prevailing 23-9.

Also in division two, Timboon Lawn 3 was at home to Glenormiston 2 and it’s fair to say that the visitors never got going.

Timboon Lawn 3 defeated Glenormiston 2, 37-9.

The top four this week are Mepunga 3, Mepunga 2, Simpson 1 and Cobden 2.

In division three, Scotts Creek 2 was home to Peterborough and celebrated an 18-13 win.

Mepunga 4 hosted Cobden 3 and the visitors got off to a flyer, picking up 13 shots to the home side’s four shots in the first seven ends of the match.

Mepunga 4 then picked up the pace, picking up seven shots to Cobden 3’s single shot and were only three behind on end 12.

Cobden 3 then dropped the hammer and defeated Mepunga 4, 22-17

The division three ladder this week is Mepunga 4, Cobden 3, Scotts Creek 2 and Peterborough.

The only positions that can change between now and the end of the season are Mepunga 4 and Cobden 3, with Scotts Creek 2 and Peterborough maintaining their positions.

In HIBBA Champion of Champions action, the championship was played last Friday at Timboon Lawn.

Timboon Lawn – Pam Dwyer and Moan Mungean.

In the first round of the ladies, Joan played Roelie and Roelie progressed; Claire played Debbie and Debbie progressed.

In the first round of the men, Ken played Scott and Ken progressed.

In the semi-finals of the ladies, Pam Dwyer (who had a bye in the first round) defeated Roelie to book her finals place.

Debbie met Pam Wines (who also had a bye in the first round) and was defeated, allowing Pam to book her spot in the final.

In the semi-finals of the men, Fred (who had a bye in the first round) met Ken and Fred progressed through to the final.

Neville met Noah (first round bye) and Neville had the win and booked his spot in the final.

In the men’s final, despite Fred throwing everything at Noah, Noah rose above and defeated Fred.

In the women’s final, the Battle of the Pams (Dwyer vs Wines) saw Pam Dwyer secure a one-shot victory in the back half of the match.

Congratulations to Timboon Lawn’s Pam Dwyer and Noah Mungeanthe 2025 HIBBA Champion of Champions.

Their next task is the VIBBA Champion of Champions on Sunday, August 10 at Sunshine. Good luck to them both.

In the VIBBA Triples action last Sunday, Kathryn Wines, Lara Mungean and Pam Wines (s) tested their skills at Sunshine.

In the first round, Pam and the team defeated Karen Brodie’s team (South Group) to progress to the quarter finals.

There, the team met Nettie Ryan (Warrnambool) and progressed to the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals they met Sandy Grano’s team (Ballarat) and booked their spot in the final where they met Anne Draffen’s team (Northern Districts).

Well done to the 2025 VIBBA Ladies Triples runners-up, Kathryn Wines, Lara Mungeanand Pam Wines.

This was a fantastic effort all round.

Warrnambool is having an Open Fours tournament on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3.
