Information centre relocates
THE Cobden Visitor Information Centre (VIC) has recently moved to a new eye-catching location, pulling in more visitors and locals from the street with local products and information on display inside.

The VIC is now open at 33 Curdie Street on the corner of the roundabout in the centre of Cobden’s main strip, certain to attract more visitors pulling through the town.
Progressing Cobden president Misty Angus said when the space on the corner became available, moving the VIC in was a no-brainer decision.
“It is a prime location for Cobden and it’s probably better for Cobden that this space not be empty with the main roundabout and visitor engagement,” she said.
“It’s far easier to see this building and it’s a bigger space – it’s actually nearly twice the square footage.
“It gave us room to provide the extra community services like the Justice of the Peace, the meeting board room, the community photocopier and the scanner, it gave us a whole lot more space to provide those extra services that we wanted.
“It’s more of a community hub than just for visitors.”
Not only does the VIC have services for locals and visitors, but there are also a range of products from locals on display for purchase, showcasing the talent of the region.

“Everything we have in here is locally made within roughly 100 kilometres of Cobden, which gives those local makers a place to sell their product without having to do markets or have a shopfront themselves,” Mrs Angus said.
“We have garden art, woodworking, pottery, clothing, jewellery, food, children’s wear, beautiful paintings and artwork from the region, artisanal products like cordials and jams.
“This month we have a pop up of strawberries from Timboon Berry World.
“We have a wonderful Indigenous artist Sherry Johnstone, who just finished the mural at Cobden Primary School so we have her product in which is beautiful.
“We have visitor information, with plans for a community information board, posters on the window so everyone can see community events and notices that are on.”
The VIC is open Monday through Saturday from 10am and on weekdays it’s open until 3pm and on Saturdays it’s open until 12, depending on what time the community barbeque finishes.
“Every Saturday morning the barbecue will start around 10am and will run through until no one else wants anymore sausages,” Mrs Angus said.
Progressing Cobden secretary Kathryn Stubbings said they were looking for more people to join the VIC team.
“We’re putting a call out for volunteers, so anyone who is interested and wants to join the team, please get in touch,” she said.
“We’re also looking for more products and handcrafts from locals so please come and see us if you’d like to be involved.
“Every month we’ll have pop up displays, such as this month it’s strawberries, so who knows what it will be next month, could be cheese, fudge, anything.”
Anyone interested in the above can contact Mrs Stubbings on 0412 332 723 or via email at secretary.progressingcobden@gmail.com.
