Input needed for Lakes Rec Reserve plan
CORANGAMITE Shire Council is seeking input from residents who enjoy cricket, golf, bowls, tennis, equestrian, or just getting out and enjoying nature at Camperdown’s Lakes Recreation Reserve.
Deputy mayor Laurie Hickey said a draft master plan for the Lakes Recreation Reserve has been prepared to guide future use and development of the reserve.
“The reserve is owned by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and council acts as Committee of Management,” he said
“There is no doubt it’s one of the more picturesque sporting facilities in the shire, with Lake Gnotuk in the background.
“A 10-year master plan will provide a strategic approach for development and future use of the reserve to meet users’ needs.
“The draft highlights recommended infrastructure works and potential funding opportunities.”
Cr Hickey said there were a number of “ambitious projects” suggested in the draft plan, which came from consultation with user groups of the reserve.
“They include Camperdown Cricket Club, Golf Bowls Club, Golf Club, Pony Club, Horse Trials and the Hampden Tennis Association,” he said.
“Council thanks them for their invaluable input.
“It is important to highlight that the completion of the projects is contingent upon securing substantial external grant funding.
“I’d encourage anybody who is interested, or who uses the reserve, to read the report on council’s website and leave their feedback.”
Some key opportunities and improvement projects include:
extending the golf equipment shed to increase the cart storage;
redeveloping the golf and bowls clubhouse;
upgrading the tennis clubroom and shelter area to include a unisex toilet;
installing floodlights over the bowling green;
replacing the bowls maintenance shed and include an undercover section with a paved barbecue area;
upgrading change rooms;
investigate options to increase the number of toilets;
better drainage;
re-sowing grass; and
a new shed for portable horse jumps.
The draft will be available at corangamite.vic.gov.au/Lakes from Monday, March 25.
Feedback can be left there or mailed to Corangamite Shire, PO Box 84, Camperdown, 3260 until 5pm, Thursday, April 24.
