Interest sought on Yarn swap stall

EXPRESSIONS of interest have now opened up for the possibility of a yarn swap group to be established in Camperdown.

The Camperdown Rotary Club is seeking interested people with unfinished projects or excess materials who may be keen to drop off any spare yarn, fabric and patterns.

Club president Jan MacDonald said there would be a set-up at November’s Sunday markets, so people can swap out their excess for a fabric, yarn colour or pattern they need for their projects.

“To start with, what we’re going to do is have a table at the Rotary tent at the markets so that people can bring what they’ve got and somebody else can come along and look through it,” she said.

“Say, for instance, you’re doing a quilt or starting quilting - you can pick up a couple of bits of material and start from there.

“Maybe you’re looking for something to put a stripy beanie together.

“What we can do is stop things from sitting inside somebody’s cupboard or being thrown into landfill, so we can more-or-less recycle the material that’s sitting there doing nothing.”

Mrs MacDonald said there may be a gold coin donation required further down the track but is currently gauging interest from the community for the yarn swap group.

“We’re thinking we might hire a hall – maybe the guide hall – to start something of an afternoon, Monday or Tuesday, so people can come along and have a look at what we’ve got,” she said.

“We’re not looking to start a quilting group or a knitting group, because we already have those in Camperdown and surrounding areas.”
