It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

CAMPERDOWN will come alive with Christmas cheer next week.

By wd-news

Retailers across the town can’t wait to spread the festive spirit, with colour, lights and decorations making every trip an extra happy one.

In the lead up to the big day, December 25, shoppers will be able to take advantage of many great specials and gift ideas, with several retailers opening their doors from 9am until 3pm on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8.

Kicking off the festive celebrations next Friday (December 6), several retailers will participate in a special sidewalk sale until 8pm to coincide with the running of the Rotary market on both sides of the avenue.

This is a great chance to do some Christmas shopping and catch a few bargains in the process.

The day also marks ‘Light Up Camperdown.’

This event will be a celebration of lanterns, lighting, projection and interactive activities.

Enjoy roving performers and lantern making workshops along with the market stall and from 6pm families can enjoy a free screening of ‘Santa Claus 2’ at the Theatre Royal.

Traders have been encouraged to stay open until late and light up their internal shop fronts while shoppers can fill out a form (available at Benallack’s) to vote for their favourite shop front.

Coinciding with these extended trading hours, locals and visitors to the town can also enjoy some fun activities over the weekend.

Santa will once again take time out from his busy schedule to visit Camperdown and children of all ages can have their photo taken with him between 10am-2pm outside Benallack’s Sports on the Saturday and Sunday.

Members of the popular Lakes and Craters Band will provide entertainment in the avenue from 11am Saturday, followed by the Community House Singers at 1pm.

The Uniting Church bake sale will offer a tasty selection of home-baked goodies from the Lions street stall booth (next to the Corangamite Shire office) where children can also collect their treasure hunt bag.

To enter the hunt simply pick up your bag and make your way around the participating stores to answer the questions and collect ‘treasures.’

All completed forms can be dropped in the box at Benallack’s Sports for the chance to win several great prizes in the lucky draw competition.

The treasure hunt will be drawn early Sunday afternoon and all winners will be notified.

Youngsters are also encouraged to head to IGA to have their faces painted between 10am and 2pm Saturday.

And on Sunday, December 8, Santa will make his special tour around the district on the back of a fire truck – bringing smiles to the faces of some of the district’s youngest residents.

The Christmas celebrations will continue on Sunday night with the running of the 75th annual Camperdown Carols by Candlelight at the Theatre Royal from 7pm.

Doors will open at 6.30pm, with free admission for all.

And after dark, families are encouraged to head out and enjoy this year’s Christmas lights at several homes across the district.
