A DESIRE to give back has led to a $2000 donation which will help put food on the tables of those who need it most.

The concept began with Julie Pomeroy, a member of the Terang Anglican Church, who noticed the want to help those in need mentioned on the church’s pew sheet.

“I thought we could apply to get some funding to purchase groceries for people in this area,”she said.

“We knew if we could get some funding to support the donation, it would be a worthy cause.”

She approached Terang Community Op-shop project manager Andrea Balcombe with the funding pitch, who said she was thrilled to support the worthwhile cause.

“Being able to do something like this is what we’re all about,” she said.

“We try to help community groups and do whatever we can to help our community."

“We have a rule where all the money we raise, even if it is donated to other organisations, is spent in our town.”

Ms Balcombe said a flow-on effect was purchasing the goods through the Terang IGA Co-op, supporting a local business.

“We always try to support local, and if some of it comes back to Terang residents then that’s a bonus,” she said.

“This is about looking after people, and I think we’re coming in to some pretty tough financial times with high energy costs, interest rates and increasing costs of living.”

Anglicare community development co-ordinator Louise Serra said the goods would be distributed where needed most.

“It goes directly to our emergency relief centre, which is based in Warrnambool,” she said.

“From there, food is distributed to wherever has the greatest need."

“We are very grateful to the Terang Community Op-Shop for its generosity.”
