CAMPERDOWN Botanic Gardens and Arboretum Trust Inc secretary Janet O’Hehir has been acknowledged for her efforts in preserving the garden for future generations.
On Tuesday, she was awarded a Handbury Award for 2020.
The award is named in honour of the late Geoff Handbury AO, a major benefactor of the Australian Association of Friends of Botanic Gardens Inc (AAFBG).
Ms O’Hehir said the awards were presented via a zoom presentation on Tuesday.
“I’m pretty pleased. It’s an Australia wide award,” she said.
“It’s a nice feeling.”
Ms O’Hehir said she received the accolade for her “remarkable dedication to advocacy, education and garden development for the indomitable spirit she brings to the gardens”.
“I think it’s terrific, not only for me, but our botanic garden and arboretum,” she said.
“We’ve been working pretty hard over the past eight years to make sure it’s (the Camperdown Botanic Gardens and Arboretum) preserved and protected.”
