Jasmine named finalist
A MEMBER of the Camperdown Pastoral and Agricultural Society (P and A Society) has been named as a finalist for a state-wide award.

Jasmine Edwards, who has been with the P and A Society for close to 13 years, was named as a finalist for the Victorian Agricultural Shows’ (VAS) Outstanding Individual Contribution award in the 25-39 years category.
The award acknowledges an individual who has made an outstanding achievement or contribution to their agricultural show or field day – their work may have assisted individuals or groups or developed competitions or programs which have assisted their society and their general community.
Mrs Edwards said she was not expecting to be named as a finalist for the award but was very appreciative of the nomination.
“I’d be very honoured to win it in recognition of what I’ve done, even though it’s by no means the reason why I’m involved or do what I do,” she said.
“It’s a great way to be recognised, and it’d be a great honour to win it.
“I’ve been involved with the show for nearly 13 years – I started getting on board as the chief horse steward but had progressed to doing other things.
“This year, I’m the vice president and the show secretary as well as the chief horse steward.
“Other than being passionate about horses, I’m very passionate about trying to get youth involved into the show committee and have that next generation of people to take over as it is an ageing demographic.”
The VAS awards will be held for the first time this year to recognise excellence within various P and A societies and field day committees across the state.
Through the awards, VAS aims to encourage innovation while acknowledging the contributions of show society members and celebrating agricultural shows.
Mrs Edwards said she enjoyed being involved in a community event and loved being able to work alongside people who were just as enthusiastic as she was.
“Thank you to the rest of the committee and the others who are involved in running it for their support,” she said.
The winners of the awards are slated to be announced on July 12.
