Jaxson to lob locks for local cause
TERANG’S Jaxson Church will lose his long locks in the name of supporting two great causes next month.

TERANG’S Jaxson Church will lose his long locks in the name of supporting two great causes next month.
Jaxson plans to donate the money raised to local initiative ‘Surviving the Dark Times’ and the freshly cut hair will be donated to ‘Wigs for Kids’.
The 11 year-old had been growing out his hair for a number of years but recently made the decision to cut it short.
Jaxson’s mum Jes suggested he take the opportunity to support a worthy cause in the process.
“Mum said if I was cutting my hair I should donate it,” Jaxson said.
“It was kind of getting annoying and I look young, so it’s time.
“I’m really excited.”
Jaxson himself picked out the Wigs for Kids initiative, which takes donated hair to provide wigs for children suffering medical issues which result in the loss of hair.
“Wigs for Kids is blowing up because it’s helping kids with cancer,” Jaxson said.
He also wanted to tie in a fundraiser with the Surviving the Dark Times initiative as he has known co-founder Lizz Kelly for as long as he could remember.
Ms Kelly was beaming with pride while talking about how much Jaxson’s fundraising meant to her.
“I was very surprised because he’s such a quiet kid, but I’m amazed and overwhelmed,” she said.
“I hope everyone can get behind him for such a good cause and get it going.”
Surviving the Dark Times is a mental health initiative aiming to develop a mental health space in Terang later this year.
It was launched by Dixie duo Lizz Kelly and Sheryn McDowell after Lizz lost her 20 year-old son, Thomas Vickers, to suicide in 2021.
Jaxson is planning to get his cut on Sunday, April 2 and hopes people will support the fundraiser.
“It is good to help other people,” he said.
Donation tins can be found at Terang Co-op IGA, Crawley’s milk bar, Terang Style Studio, Terang Country Bakery, Zip ‘n’ Stitch and Automech Warrnambool.
