Jazz star to take the stage
JAZZ will be in the air this Thursday evening, February 6 as rising star saxophonist James Eller takes the stage at the Commercial Hotel at 7pm, with admission by donation.
Proud grandfather Harold Eller reminisced on a similar performance James accomplished last year around this time.
“After his performance in Terang last February, James went to the Port Fairy Jazz Festival where he won the $1000 John Huf award for outstanding jazz musician under 26,” he said.
“James and his band recently performed at the Australian Jazz Convention held in Mildura.”
At only 15 years old, James is in year ten at school on the Gold Coast this year.
“Even at such a young age he auditioned and was accepted for first year study in a Bachelor of Music degree at the Jazz Music Institute, Brisbane,” Mr Eller said.
“James will still be going to school on the Gold Coast but will travel up to Brisbane for his university studies one day and one evening a week.”
