Join the circus at Cooriemungle

FROM fire spinning to acrobatics – Spinfest 2025 will have it all.

By wd-news

Spinfest is a three day circus and flow arts camp which brings in around 350 attendees from across Australia to Camp Cooriemungle each January.

Long-time attendee and now director of Spin Circus Festival Ciara Thorburn encouraged local residents to get involved in the annual festival from January 16 to 20.

“If you have an interest in circus, acrobatics, juggling, or even fire spinning – this is the place to come and learn and share with other like minded people,” she said.

“People come from all over Australia to attend Spinfest, to learn, grow and share knowledge and skills.

“We have total beginner to advanced workshops running 8am to 6pm each day, where you can practice yoga or dance, improve your handstands, have a go at aerial arts like Trapeze or Lyra or even learn to rollerskate.”

Ms Thorburn said Camp Cooriemungle was an ideal location to hold the annual event.

“Spinfest used to be based at Sokil Eco Arts Retreat in Wensleydale for about 10 years, but we outgrew the venue,” she said.

“We are small but mighty, with about 350 people expected to attend.

“Cooriemungle is a perfect site and our new home, where we are able to provide dorm accommodation, camping, suitable grounds for what we call ‘Aerial City’, slacklining and plenty of indoor and outdoor workshop areas.

“In fact, the Spinfest 2025 timetable boasts 10 workshop areas and over 160 workshops over three days.”

Ms Ciara said about 50 per cent of attendees this year are first timers.

“The Spinfest and circus community is so welcoming, for people from all backgrounds and experience levels,” she said.

“Circus is an amazing way to improve your health, stimulate your brain, and improve your co-ordination and confidence.”
