Junior Lions climb to third
THE Corangamite Lions under 12s produced another gutsy performance last weekend.
The side travelled to Wendouree where they defeated Forest Rangers Light Green 3-1.
The win sees the Lions climb to third on the league ladder, with finals now firmly in their sights.
Despite being a player down, the Lions never let the disadvantage affect their intent or energy.
The first half was a tight, disciplined contest with neither side able to break the deadlock.
The second half told a different story.
The Lions went out with renewed purpose and imposed themselves across the field, eventually running out two goal winners.
Season debutant Knox Fleming made an immediate impact, slotting home two goals, while Jay Finlayson added a third and was rewarded for his all-round display with a Player of the Match award.
With just a few games left of the home and away season, the under 12s find themselves well positioned for a finals campaign.
They will face ladder leaders Sebastopol Vikings A at the Camperdown Showgrounds this Saturday.
The Lions will draw confidence from their earlier encounter this season when they held the Vikings to a 1-all draw.
The young Lions will be eager to go one better on home turf this weekend.
