Kavanagh, Ahearn win at Mid-Western Speedway
JASON Kavanagh took out the Col Grist Memorial for super rods and former Mortlake resident Morris Ahearn claimed the Brendan Hannabury Tribute for street stocks during a mammoth day’s racing at Mid-Western Speedway Darlington on Sunday.

JASON Kavanagh took out the Col Grist Memorial for super rods and former Mortlake resident Morris Ahearn claimed the Brendan Hannabury Tribute for street stocks during a mammoth day’s racing at Mid-Western Speedway Darlington on Sunday.
On a day packed with thrills and spills, Kavanagh won the 25-lap memorial final ahead of Jacob Pitcher, Grant Stansfield, Billy Grist, and Stan Marco Jnr after heading the field for much of the race.
Ahearn began in top spot in the Hanno Tribute after winning two of the six qualifying races, and saw off contenders Dean Jenkins, Ricky Throckmorton, Chris Hay and Michael Smith.
Portland’s Nathan Hutchins prevailed in the standard saloon event, winning ahead of Tim Hutchinson, Lachie Chivers, Patrick Walsh and Rick Stowe.
Miller Throckmorton won the Top Stars grade of the junior sedans in front of Blake Glynn, while Pary Das won the New Star grade ahead of Zammy Noseda and Tayla Whitmore.
Victorian champion Shannon Meakins won the SDAV hot rods event from Phil Jenkins, Tony Green, Kali Hovey and Stuey Robinson.
