Sixteen year-old Keira last weekend finished runner-up in the West Coast Bowls region women’s novice singles championships in Warrnambool.

Keira put on an outstanding performance, narrowly losing to Penshurst Bowling Club’s Avril Ros 21-20.

In only her second year of bowling with the club, Keira started the final slowly, trailing by six shots.

As her confidence grew, she closed the gap to a draw before the score see-sawed and were drawn again, at 20-all, with one end to play.

Avril drew shot with her last bowl, leaving Keira one final bowl to win the title.

Keira had a good look at the situation before letting her bowl go.

She managed to trail the Kitty but unfortunately it travelled an inch too far, giving Avril the title by one shot.

Camperdown Golf Magpies has two first-time President Handicap winners, with Kell Edwards and John Molan winning the titles last Sunday.

Kell defeated Leanne Fitzgerald 21-7 while John defeated John O’Donohue 21-14.

Leanne had to give Kell an eight-shot start under the handicap rules and could not make up the difference, with Kell controlling the game from start to finish.

The two John’s started with John Molan giving John O’Donohue an eight-shot start.

Molan made up the difference between ends four to 12 by collecting 14 shots to one.

By end 21, Molan held a two shot lead but then scored six shots to one to take the title.

The mixed pairs will commence at the club this Sunday and the ladies’100up and B grade championship will both start in coming weeks.

The club’s AGM and presentation day will be held together this year, with the date set for Sunday, April 27. More details to follow.
