Knights down by three wickets

A FEW missed catches proved costly for the Cobden Knights in round one of South West Cricket.
The Knights, facing the recently merged Heytesbury Princetown Storm at Timboon last Saturday, dropped three catches in the field but had a relatively good start to the season according to captain Simon Murfett.
“While it was disappointing to have lost those opportunities (for wickets) I was pretty happy with how we went for the opening round of the season,” Murfett said.
“We certainly need to work on our catches and that’s something we’ll be focussing on this week.
“But overall I was pretty pleased with how we batted the 50 overs out.”
Murfett said he was pleased to see the return of Kaplan McCann after taking a season off.
McCann opened the batting for the Knights and put on a strong 26 runs, while Campbell Walsh top scored with 36 not out and Parker Walsh contributed a handy 21.
“McCann did really well with the bat and the Walsh boys also performed well at the crease,” Murfett said.
Lower order bastmen Cooper Beard and Connor Poole both enjoyed their first game in division one, having played last season in the lower grades.
“It’s only early days and we can certainly take far more positives than negatives from last weekend’s game. We’ll now look to this Saturday and hope to turn the tables when we face Woorndoo on their ground.”
The Knights ended their 50 overs at 7/142 while the Storm finished the day on 7/143 in the 41st over.
Best of the bowlers for the Knights were Matt Harkin 3/26 off nine overs and Matthew Boyle 1/14 off seven.
