Knights off to a good start in Twenty20
THE first two rounds of South West Cricket's Twenty20 competition proved successful for the Cobden Knights.
The Knights had a clean sweep last weekend, defeating both Boorcan and Woorndoo at home.
Taking on the Dragons on Saturday morning, the Knights won the toss and elected to bat.
Opener Matthew Boyle was quick to get runs on the board, making an effective 37 from 25 balls – which included five boundaries – before being dismissed.
Middle order batsman Angus Uwland was also effective with the bat, adding 33 to the board, while team-mate Edmund Walsh contributed 26 and Johno Benallack 12.
The Knights finished their innings at 7/142 and defended the total strongly in the field, restricting the Dragons to 9/76 in just 15.3 overs.
Best of the bowlers for the Knights were Darcy Meade, Matthew Boyle and Sam Melican with two wickets each.
Round two saw the Knights continue their momentum in front of a home crowd, again winning the toss and electing to bat against visitors, Woorndoo.
Opener Jonty Robertson top scored with an impressive 51 which included six boundaries while team-mate Edmund Walsh was unbeaten on 24 – the Knights finishing the day at 7/138 after 20 overs.
In return the Tigers were contained to 8/119 with Darcy Meade, Edmun Walsh and Parker Walsh the best of the Knights’ bowlers.
