The Knights were hosting reigning premier Mortlake, with the two clubs playing for the Gaut-Jewell Cup, named in honour of former Knights batsmen Colin Gaut and Cats quick Robbie Jewell.
Mortlake won the toss and elected to bat first and posted a score of 7/199 from their 50 overs.
They lost two early wickets before Tyler Schafer (32) and Clinton Baker (75) put on 110 for the third wicket, with the Cats’ tail then helping them push toward 200.
Angus Uwland was the pick of the bowlers with 3/37 from nine overs, while Dean Jones finished with figures of 2/34.
Tom Marshall (1/11) and Paul Pekin (1/31) were the other wicket takers, as the Knights used eight bowlers across the innings.
In reply, the Knights lost two early wickets with Michael Pegg and Jones dismissed cheaply before Kaplan McCann (44) and Johno Benallack (31) resurrected the innings.
The pair took the Knights from 2/14 to 2/89 before a mini collapse saw the hosts slump to 5/91, with Benallack, McCann and Jackson Rock (zero) departing in quick succession.
Fourteen runs later, Jason Davis returned to the pavilion, before Uwland (44) and Josh Hickey (19 not out) put together a 58 run partnership for the seventh wicket.
However, Uwland’s departure triggered another loss of multiple wickets, with Brayden Crow (one), Pekin (three) and Jia Anderson (zero) all gone quickly as the Knights were bowled out for 166.
The Knights will now have the chance to end their run of losses, with a clash at home against Noorat awaiting them.
In the division two contest held following the day’s main game, a strong all-round performance from David Buckle helped the Knights record a 25-run victory.
Buckle made 44 opening the innings to top score for his side in their total of 9/149, before following up with 3/14 off six overs to help bowl the Cats out for 124.
Ben Clarke (3/9) and Leigh Walsh (2/33) also chipped in with multiple wickets, while Matthew Clarke (16), Jacob Pekin (13), Ben Harding (13), Josh Fagan (11) and Nick Wetemans (11) added handy contributions with the bat.
The Knights face Ecklin at Ecklin this weekend.
