Knights too strong for Boorcan

SOME hard hitting from their top order batsmen earned Cobden Knights’ division two side a big win over Boorcan last week.

Friday night’s round 11 match at home saw the Knights amass 7/272 after 40 overs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Knights set their visitors a big target to chase down, with opener Matt Clarke showing plenty of form, making 55 from just 46 deliveries.

This included six boundaries and two sixes.

Team-mate Michael Pegg was also formidable with the bat, smashing 60 from 59 deliveries in an innings that included three boundaries and three sixes.

Opener Jia Anderson was also strong at the crease, making 34 from 48 balls (including four boundaries and a six) while Jackson Rock contributed 55 from just 28 deliveries.

Rock’s big-hitting performance included three boundaries and four sixes.

Captain Luke Hickey hit three boundaries and a six as he made his way to 31 before being caught out.

In reply, Boorcan was dismissed at 10/182 in the 40th over.

Wickets were shared among the Knights’ bowlers.

Benjamin Clarke finished the night with figures of 2/20 while Edmund Walsh contributed 2/36, Brodie Hanks 2/12, Grady Rooke 1/25, Joe Hutt 1/24 and captain Luke Hickey 1/7.

The Knights currently sit on top of the division two South West ladder, ahead of second-placed Heytesbury Storm, with Bookaar and Ecklin rounding out the top four.

Round 11 this Saturday will see Pomborneit take on Ecklin at the MCP Oval while Storm and Bookaar will meet at Timboon Recreation Reserve.
