Helping out: Cobden Conference of St Vincent De Paul member’s Pam Savage and Paul Dwyer prepare to deliver close to 300 knitted items to those in need in Melbourne

Since 2009 members of the Cobden Conference of St Vincent De Paul have been supplying knitted items to Brother Doug Wallace in Melbourne.

Member Pam Savage said at the time one of the members suggested they knit beanies to send to the homeless.

“It’s grown from then to now,” she said.

“We regularly meet Brother Doug in Colac with delivered.”

The most recent delivery includes 280 items longingly knitted by volunteers.

Mrs Savage since 2009, 4580 knitted items have been donated thanks to the generosity of the community.

“Sue Lyons and her mother are a wonderful help for us as are Dot Spaul from Simpson and Fran Warden from Cobden,” she said.

“Thank you also to my two sisters Jill and Claire.

“The wider community have been helping us along the way.”

Mrs Savage said the donated items go to the homeless and those in need as well as the Ronald McDonald House.

“It’s a wonderful feeling being able to help,” she said.

“The Cobden Uniting Church Op Shop has been a wonderful support and the hospital Op Shop as well.”

Community members wanting to help the group or make a donation of wool or yarn – 8-ply is preferred – can reach out to Pam Savage on 5595 1565.
