Knitting for a good cause
A GROUP of dedicated volunteers in Cobden continue to make a difference.

A GROUP of dedicated volunteers in Cobden continue to make a difference.
The group of eight ladies have spent countless hours knitting and crocheting items to be donated to St Vincent De Paul’s to be distributed to a variety of organisations.
St Vincent De Paul Society Cobden Conference’s Helen Watts said the group donated more than 300 items earlier in the year and sent another car load of goods last month.
She said the handmade items are distributed in a variety of ways including to the homeless in Melbourne, to refugees, Ronald McDonald House and young mothers.
“These articles are knitted and crocheted by a small group of eight ladies who voluntarily donate their time and skill to help with this project,” Mrs Watts said.
“I thank them all sincerely for their generosity.
“A lady donated three plastic tubs full of articles she usually sells at markets to us for which we were most grateful.”
Mrs Watts said the Cobden United Church Op Shop also donates goods to the group which was appreciated.
She said the volunteer project sees a variety of roles across the group.
“A couple of our St Vincent De Paul Cobden Conference members stitch our labels on all these articles, sort them into categories…count them and pack them into large plastic bags which takes hours of work,” Mrs Watts said.
“However, it’s most rewarding and well worthwhile to see the final result to help others.
“This project commenced in 2008 and over the years more than 4000 items have been given.”
