Ladder slip for division one
COBDEN Bowling Club’s division one midweek pennant side has dropped back to last on the ladder after a clean sweep by City at their home ground, 53-79.
Margaret Hester, David Staggard, Elaine Telford and Loreign Andrews lost 17-28 to C. Hanson, S. Fanelli, B. Whittaker and S. Kirby.
Denis Delaney, Sue Couch, Peter Richardson and Brian Howard lost 17-29 to L. Inglis, S. Trigg, G. Theodore and T. Hegedus.
Ann Scott, Trevor Roberts, Bert Strampel and Doreen Coverdale lost 19-24 to R. McMahon, P. Howard, V. Brown and G. Gillespie.
The selectors will be under some pressure to avoid relegation and having two teams in the one division.
In a mirror image over at the dome at Colac Bowling Club, division two also lost 53-79 to Colac 2.
Joy Beaton, Kath Spokes, Denise Robertson and Patsy Neal had a particularly hard day at the office facing a very strong team of D. Hutchinson, R. Hutchinson, H. Ezard and C. Charity to lose 7-39.
Claire Reynolds, Colin Spokes, David Luker and Des Couch won 28-16 from E. Hay, L. Rich, N. Thompson and M. Halliday.
Janelle Rohan, Paul Dwyer, E. Grayland and David Childs lost 18-24 to K. Ezard, G. Brown, S. Rooke and D. Mackay.
Cobden is in third place on the ladder, one point ahead of Derrinallum, who had another loss against lower placed Lorne.
The weekend pennant was a washout due to the welcome rain.
No divisions were played and the round was abandoned.
The competition is now over the half way point of the draw and there are only six rounds remaining to establish teams and aim to be in the top four.
The women’s championship final was played on Thursday evening between Kathryn Robertson and Janelle Rohan.
Kathryn was victorious, winning 25-18 and is again the Club Champion.
