Lady golfers earn promotion

WESTERN District Golf Association’s (WDGA) women’s team has earned promotion to division two after winning the division three Country Week title at Melbourne last week.

The 10 player team went through the three day competition undefeated, wrapping up the title on the final day at Sandhurst.

WDGA started the week strongly at Keysborough with a 5-2 win over Wimmera, which they backed up with a strong second day of performances.

WDGA first defeated Northern 5.5-1.5 in the morning of matches at Gardiners Run Golf Club, and made it a double for the day with a 4.5-2.5 triumph over West Gippsland in the afternoon.

And on the final day, WDGA scored a comfortable 5-2 victory over Kara Kara to complete an undefeated week and earn promotion back to division two.

Local players Cobden’s Debbie Rix, Terang pair Marion Venn and Michelle Beasley, Timboon’s Donna Weller and Lake Bolac’s Leanne Ritchie featured in the victory while Timboon pair Michelle Gristede and Heather Haberfield caddied for the team.
