VANDALS have once again struck in Camperdown, with the southern beach of Lake Bullen Merri targeted.

Camperdown Police Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Raven said a report was received on Monday night about damage around the boat ramp area of the southern beach.

“There were reports of four-wheel drives having driven through signage,” he said.

A number of road signs were knocked down, including a speed limit sign and a give way sign.

Tire marks were also left on a rock garden constructed by the South Beach Committee of Management.

Volunteer Gary O’Neil said he was disappointed to see what had happened.

“It just doesn’t need to happen,” he said.

“We as a committee and the shire now have to repair the signage.

“They might think it’s funny but it’s affecting the community.

“It’s disappointing to see all the hard work put in by everyone wrecked by some group or individual.

“You can’t see the sense in what they get out of it.”

Mr O’Neil said there were no words for those who caused the damage.

“What do you say to people who have no regard for people’s property or for anything?” he said.

“It’d be different if it was their property getting vandalised.

“Unfortunately this is not the first time, nor will it be the last.

“Whoever’s done it should have a good look at themselves.

“They’ve not only disadvantaged the committee but also the community.”
