Lake Gnotuk gets bubbly
RESIDENTS looking out to Lake Gnotuk may have done a double-take on Tuesday when they saw chunks of white floating on the lake’s surface.

Slight foaming: Camperdown’s Lake Gnotuk saw a sprinkling of lake foam forming this week.
The white chunks are actually called sea foam – usually called lake foam when on a lake – which forms in seawater or saltwater lakes.
The Victorian Heritage Council lists Lake Gnotuk as a hypersaline lake, referring to the high salt content of the water.

One resident reported the lake has only formed foam twice in four years, with this recent event as the second time.
Lake foam is formed from decomposing organic material such as plants and algae.
