Lakers fall short
CAMPERDOWN fell short in its quest to regain the Graham Hillman Memorial Shield, going down to Pomborneit by 37 runs in the round 14 Colac-South West premier cricket match at SA Wright Oval.
The Lakers, through opening bowlers Nick Frith and Harry Sumner, reduced Pomborneit to 5/28 before the Bulls got away to score 169 all out.
Frith led the bowlers with 3/29 from eight overs, captain Steven Fisher took the last two wickets to finish with 2/23 while Sumner, Jordan Riches and James O'Neil took a wicket each.
Camperdown’s reply started in a similar vein, crashing to 5/36 when Fisher walked out to bat.
Immediately looking to score, Fisher got the Lakers’ innings back on track - the home team reaching 7/123 before Shane Wilson was run out after an eighth wicket partnership of 46.
Unfortunately for Camperdown, the last two wickets fell quickly, the team all out for 132.
Fisher remained 65 not out from 64 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes.
In this week’s final round, Camperdown host Irrewarra at SA Wright Oval.
In division three, Camperdown had a big eight wicket win over Boorcan at Camperdown number two.
The Dragons put on 127 for the first wicket before ending up 228 all out.
Shane Stephens led the bowling for Camperdown with 3/33 from eight overs, with Brady Bernoth taking two wickets.
The Lakers passed Boorcan’s score in 34.1 overs for the loss of just two wickets.
Darren Payne retired on 72 from 82 balls, junior player Beau Smith made 54 from 59 with Daniel Missen and Stephens unbeaten on 55 and 37 respectively.
The division three Lakers play their final game of the season tomorrow against Cobden at Camperdown number two.
In the under 13s on Monday, Camperdown had a 4/120 to 9/105 run win over Cobden at Camperdown.
Finn Gellie took three wickets in Cobden’s innings, with Maddison Fisher and Beau Smith both making 20 retired in Camperdown’s innings.
The two teams will meet again in Monday’s semi-final at Camperdown number two.
