WITH perfect weather predicted and 300 ready-to-catch Rainbow Trout released in to Tea Tree Lake this week, it might be time to break out the fishing rods.

Mortlake joins a number of water sources stocked with ready-to-catch rainbow trout this week ahead of the school holidays.

Other locations to be stocked with the trout include:

• Lake Cobden – 300;

• Jubilee Lake, Skipton – 200;

• Lismore Golf Club Dam – 200;

• Lake Pertobe in Warrnambool – 450; and

• Simpson Recreation Reserve Lakes – 300.

The rainbow trout stocked are advanced yearlings and are suitable to be caught immediately.

Anglers are reminded a daily bag limit of five trout applies, of which only two can exceed 35 centimetres.

Rainbow trout are a good option for children or those trying fishing for the first time, because they are relatively easy to catch and take a variety of baits and lures.

Fish stocking ahead of the school holidays is funded by recreational fishing licence fees and the State Government’s Go Fishing Victoria plan to encourage more people to get out and about in nature and enjoy a day or two of fishing.

The stocking program aims to encourage families to go fishing, so please adhere to the bag limit to ensure the younger fishers have an opportunity to reel a couple in.
