Last round battle for finals berth
THIS weekend’s final round of the Warrnambool District League will determine who claims fifth spot on the ladder and a finals berth for season 2024.
Kolora Noorat is currently sitting in seventh, but with only percentage separating Dennington (fifth), Panmure and the Power, a lot will be riding on this weekend’s results.
The Power will face Russells Creek (third), Dennington will take on Merrivale (second) and Panmure will host Allansford (fourth).
The Power, coming off a huge 138-point loss to powerhouse Merrivale last weekend, will be eager to get back on the winners’ list this Saturday.
The side was outplayed at Merrivale Recreation Reserve, limited to just four majors for the day (4.2.26) while the Tigers went on to score 23.24.164.
Caleb Scanlon, Sam Uwland, Jack Aitken, Harry Stuart, Oscar Curran and Nick Castersen were listed in the best for the side.
The goals were shared between Eitan Brooks, Taj Podger, Riley Scanlon and Jack Vaughan.
Kolora Noorat’s reserves have just missed out on finals, sitting sixth but two games behind Dennington.
Merrivale was also too strong last weekend, defeating Kolora Noorat 22.14.146 to 1.2.8.
Sam Hutchinson was the only goal scorers while Jacob Kenna, Henry Kenna, Alexander Kenna, Craig King, Michael Bell and Remington Clarke were named in the best.
Kolora Noorat’s under 18s will also be hoping for a final round win, and for other results to fall in their favour, if they are to sneak into the five after the final round.
The team currently sits sixth, a game behind the Timboon Demons.
Final scores last Saturday were Kolora Noorat 8.6.54 to Merrivale 4.4.28.
